This kinda goes with my previous post. We got the 3 new hens which aren't laying yet, probably about 4-5 months old, n put them in the coop to get them used to it. It's a small coop from TS but plenty big for just those 3 chickens. Anyway, this is their 2nd day and they are just staying in the...
This rooster has traveled down to our neighbors twice now because he has hens, so I guess he’s REALLY lonely. My adult son has to walk down n get him.

I have ONE single rooster. All our hens were either killed over the last year, or died of old age. I would like to start with 3 new, young-ish hens. I don’t imagine the rooster will give them much problem as he’s “lonely”, correct??
I plan to shut them all into the coop for how long? Days...
Is there any poison for fire ants you can use safely for free-range chickens?? My son found one we think is ok called “Over ‘n Out”. We have Fire Ants n out chickens free range all over the yard.

Has anyone found a cheap source of egg cartons for a dozen eggs? I’m giving eggs away since I get 6/day so I don’t want to spend $1 a carton on top of it.
My sons new mower finally came and he’s mowing tonight. He found a cardboard box in our burn pile with about 2 dozen eggs in it!! Are they good? Do a float test on them? Or just discard?
I started carrying a rake with me every time I go feed. I just shake the rake at my roo and tell him "it's you or me boy, and it's gonna be me!" and haven't had a problem since. Its worth it since otherwise he's a good rooster. And it's only me. No one else in the family.
Had a flock of 8. 1 roo. Born March 2024 so 6 months old. All hens laying. Fed them at around 4 PM one night. All there and accounted for and eating. They go to bed around 6:30-7:00ish. 4 roost on top of the garage (they get there by flying from the porch to the roof) and 4 roost on the back...
