Flock of roosters on same property as hens??

And I just moved to a farm from a very urban setting where I couldn’t have any roosters and had to adopt all of mine out. It was sad.

Flock of roosters on same property as hens??

I just have a valid interest in trying to help roosters and know several farms in the area that have flocks of them. One of them only has roosters, though, and I wanted to hear from other people about their experiences.

Flock of roosters on same property as hens??

I started reading up on it last night and there are noise restrictions. I just feel bad for roosters and want to try to assist. What about an older male? I don’t want him being too rough with my girls.

Flock of roosters on same property as hens??

I live in the country and, to my knowledge, there aren’t restrictions out here... I could be wrong though!!

Flock of roosters on same property as hens??

It would be a mix of ages and breeds. I just want to give them homes.

Flock of roosters on same property as hens??

I’ve been thinking about rescuing roosters and know they can live happily together if there are no ladies around. We have five acres, and I have hens already, but I was wondering if anyone has successfully raised both separately if they are far apart? I was thinking I’d put the boys on one side...

    Flock dynamics

Here is a less than great photo of the coop. I have built roosting poles inside it, and I put in a nesting box, but there’s really not much else in there at all. Just a big, boring square... The roosting poles aren’t visible in the photo, but they’re on the left. And, the chicken is standing in...

    Flock dynamics

Thanks for these ideas. We have a huge coop, so space isn’t an issue. But, I don’t think I’ve put enough fun things in it, or things for them to use as safe spaces, and I appreciate your suggestions for those. I’ll add some things tomorrow. I’ve seen measurable results today just with the fact...

    Flock dynamics

I have a 100 SF converted wood shed that has a full wire mesh front and heavy doors that we close at night to keep predators away. I am still working on the run, but I let my pullet (13 weeks) free range our fenced yard during the day and she loves it. I haven’t let the chicks do so because I...

    Flock dynamics

The pullet is coming around. She is not at all vicious with the babies, but she does peck at them and chase them. It’s just not rough, if that makes sense. She is trying to teach them how to roost, too, as I’ve found her night and morning hanging out with them on their roosting pole, and she’s...

    Flock dynamics

Thank you. It’s been almost ten days and is worse now than it was when I brought the new chicks home. Is that normal?

    Flock dynamics

Greetings. I bought three five-week-old chicks from a reputable hatchery to go with my lone pullet- who had just lost all of her beloved brothers because I cannot keep Roos in city limits- just over a week ago. When I got them, they were horribly pecked but had no visible wounds aside from...

I need to re-home a 9-week-old Easter Egger rooster. Durham, NC

Thank you! He has a new hom at a zoo in NC. I was sad to let him go, but I think he will be very happy there. Good luck with your new roo!

New chicks severely pecked. Should I be worried?

Greetings! I purchased three 4-5 week old chicks yesterday from a reputable hatchery in town, and I am appalled by how horribly pecked they are. They seem to be very highly stressed and look and act nothing like the six chicks I raised from hatching (who ended up all being males except one, and...

Still a cockerel? 11 weeks old

Good morning! Hoping for a quick turnaround this morning as I am driving this one’s brother to a sanctuary and would prefer not to have to take the trip twice. Most people were leaning toward cockerel a few weeks ago, but there were a few on the fence. What say you now? Not crowing, but stands...
