Why does this chicken like cat food? I see it is not a rare thing. I suspect it would affect their ability to produce good fertilizer. Anyone have input?
I'm in west chester/west goshen. I really need a nice temprement hen (or other compatible critter) to be a companion for my sweet sweet hen who is all by herself. My cat loves hanging with her, but now that it is cooler he doesnt want to go out. Can anyone help me?

My chicken used to lay huge double yoke eggs, now that she is alone (other clucks have been vics of predators) her eggs are rare and tiny, like quail eggs. Too strange.

I have read (& confirmed from my bird vet), that parakeets & other birds are lactose intolerant, hence the comment. However, it seems that chickens are the garbage collectors (adorable as they are) and compose alternative and probably can tolerate most things.

Thank you so much for your advice and the helpful links. I knew I had some Dr Bonners peppermint oil soap, so I follow that with hot water. WORKED LIKE A CHARM, and I can feed the hens right on top of it. I am still finding new little holes all over the run and an occtional wasp...
