Electrified Fence and Silkies and Call Ducks

Ahh, when you said get caught up, I assumed the death would be accidental asphyxiation or injury or something. That makes sense. Thank you!

Electrified Fence and Silkies and Call Ducks

That is interesting! Maybe I can only electrify higher up so the electrical issue is moot. Thanks for the idea!

Electrified Fence and Silkies and Call Ducks

Thanks! Just checking because voltages for poultry netting is about half than that of electric fencing - is your answer for the former or latter?

Electrified Fence and Silkies and Call Ducks

It is great to hear that tiny ducklings were safe. It looks like poultry netting only as about half the voltage of normal electric fencing (~3k vs ~7-8k). Have you used regular electric fencing near them?

Electrified Fence and Silkies and Call Ducks

Thanks! Do you know if it is something about their feathers that protects them? Cause my call ducks have different feathers...

Electrified Fence and Silkies and Call Ducks

Hi all, my goats are eroding my hillside so I need to find temporary way to limit their access to parts of it. it looks like an electric fence is a good option. However, I have silkies and call ducks that are free roam and I am concerned that an electric fence could kill them. Does anyone know...

Are all wood chips safe for a chicken run?

I don’t think anyone is saying that upon contact with pine an animal will die. What they are saying that pine poses an increased health risk and there are other alternatives that do not. Everyone has their own risk tolerance for themselves and their animals. You seem to be constructing a false...

Are all wood chips safe for a chicken run?

Commercial growers’ primary concern is cost. Therefore, they will have done a thorough cost-benefit analysis of any thing they use in their flocks. Rice hulls and pine shavings are most commonly used in commercial settings because they are the cheapest. That does not necessarily mean that they...

Female Silkie Chick with Eye Problem

Thanks so much! I am new to chickens and I think I’ll have to get outside my comfort zone and start learning this stuff! So far, it looks like the neosporin is helping so I’ll see how that goes.

Female Silkie Chick with Eye Problem

Thank you so much. The LA 200 was recommended by the breeder and she told me to put a few drops in her eye a few times a day. I'm not sure if I am confident enough yet to inject her so I will get some saline and Neosporin and try that. Thanks.

Female Silkie Chick with Eye Problem

Hi all, my female silkie chick ("Butterscotch") has a gunky eye. It doesn't appear to bother her and she is otherwise completely normal and healthy, but it also doesn't seem to be improving after a few days with LA 200 a few times a day. Her poop is also particularly stinky, in case that might...

2 v 3 v 4 Silkies? and Beware Ground Squirrels in Southern California

I’m so sorry this happened to you as well :( That might be a good option - I’ve been hand raising these girls inside and the thought of starting over with new ones or messing with their dynamic seems tiring right now. I am so sad this happened and especially because they got my favorite baby 😢

Thanks so much. It is good to know that I don’t need to do anything right now if I’m not ready. Thanks for your thoughts!
