So I get home this evening from my day-long errands (it's state fair week starting up) and my husband announces that the coop will be finished, with a temporary roof, and we are moving the Keets into their coop mansion tonight! Any normal time it would've taken WEEKS to get my coop built but...
In the brooder they are scratching and "bathing" like they are in dirt! When can/should I move them to the coop? What kind of bedding should I use for my 3 week old Keets? Can I use the same wood shavings that I used for my horses? Help? :/  :/
Thanks...actually he is painting the boards before he puts them up so we know they are dry. My Keets are still in a brooder of sort so I think we'll be okay as far as fumes /odors by the time they get to the coop!:)
What about Thompson Water Seal? My husband is building a new coop and is considering using this on the boards especially the flooring. Has anyone ever heard of results from using this? (LOL please hurry...he's standing over me with a brush ready to paint!!!!) ;)
Thanks for your quick response. Your explanation makes a lot of sense and I guess my instincts are better than I gave myself credit for! I have, in fact, been picking that Keet up and spreading its feet around my fingers. I'll continue to do that and we'll just have to see what happens! I'll...
One of my little Keets is walking on its knuckles....won't seem to spread its feet out. Is this something it will grow out of, requires medical intervention or physical therapy, or simply hope for the best but prepare for the worst?
I am totally new to this...I have never even owned a chicken...
I have tried to type a response to you but every time I get close to finishing it I lose it ...the first time it sent back your quote as my reply! Maybe I'll try again later on my desktop instead of my iPad...maybe will be different.
