I don't know how many your're feeding but I feed 19 out of a 5gln bucket for several days (they free range a lot). Near the end I hold out the next days ff in a smaller 2qt bucket or two and refill the 5gln. I've found that if you leave a qt or so in the big bucket when you mix in the new it'll...
I use the "Plus Omega-3 and have not had a problem with my 19 girls eating it. I mix up probably 4 gallons worth in a 5gl bucket and it lasts 4-5 days (depending on how much I free range them) until I mix again with the leftovers.
I hate to give you the short answer but I don't know how to post the link.
There are a couple of good threads active and there is one in particular that goes step by step on Fermenting. Basically mix feed and water, stir daily and in a couple days you have fermented feed. Ratio is about 1 to 1...
Mine have been getting lots of tomatoes of which they leave no trace of. I had/still have late tomatoes in the garden and I get culled ones by the box from a produce store. I also buy dried "bugs" by the 5# bag (crickets, mealworms, river shrimp and sunworms) but most often they get dry feed for...
I go to my local produce stand and get what they're going to trash. Last week I picked up two boxes of tomatoes destined for the dumpster. I was shocked at what they were tossing, I canned 10 qts and fed the rest to the girls.
Interesting, mine are 5 yoa. I just thought it was odd that all of a sudden I'm getting a couple eggs from any of them as soon as the newer ones are producing daily.
I have 5 old hens that quit laying many months ago and 14 new hens I bought at 2 days and are now laying almost full force. My question is can the introduction of new laying hens cause the older ones to start again? I ask because some days I get more than 14 eggs and a couple are obviously...
I have all but eliminated flies completely from my coop with FF. It used to be horrible in there but ever since FF they are gone. I definitely use less feed but even if they ate twice as much with FF it would be worth it for the reduction of odor.
I went out of town for a couple weeks and thought I could leave a boatload of FF in the feed tray and they would eat on it for however many days until it was gone. My theory was if it's in a bucket for several days why not in a feed tray? When I got home it was a black moldy mess. A friend of...
I sometimes give mine NaturesPeck insect medley (dried mealworms, sunworms, crickets and river shrimp but recently I've been treating them with...........laying pellets. Yes regular ol chicken feed, they go crazy for it. Apparently they are so use to the wet fermented feed that they think the...
I apparently need practice on searching criteria as it took me forever to find exactly what I was looking for. In any case I put up a string of three lights like you would find at a construction site under the 20x8 overhang of my chicken yard today. I have had one inside the coop all along...
I wonder if it's a trait that some mammals share. I was a K9 handler for many years and one training exercise we utilized was to portray yourself as the loser in a scuffle (aggressor on top). Some dogs would attack their handler and it is thought that it is an attempt to gain the Alpha position...
I'm going out of town and have someone who will look after my ladys and collect the eggs for himself those couple of weeks. I won't ask him to feed FF and mess with all that but was wondering if I put a quart of already fermented feed in the fridge will it "keep" so I can get a jump start on the...
I can't answer your question but if somebody is familiar with these I wonder if a squirrel would generally be heavy enough to activate it. They and the local birds are eating more than my hens (I bet the cardinals this year had the healthiest chicks ever).
