Adult rooster with positive coccidiosis test

We're 3 days into Corid dosing and there has been no improvement. He can stand, can't right himself if he falls over, can walk a bit, doesn't hold his tail up, still not moving much but alert, best I can tell not eating or drinking on his own still. Had a fairly normal dropping last night...

Adult rooster with positive coccidiosis test

Thanks, friends! @Chicalina , good to know about the bloody droppings not always being present. @One Lucky Momma , thank you for your encouragement. No better but no worse. I didn't think he would make it this far so I'm hopeful. @Eggcessive , Vet tech could not say how much cocci present...

Adult rooster with positive coccidiosis test

After more reading in the forum it seems his very green droppings might be a sign of bacterial infection and maybe should treat with sulfa or Baytril (neither of which I have). So maybe start there instead of the amprolium or wormer?? I feel I need to do something ASAP.

Adult rooster with positive coccidiosis test

Got a 5 year old sizzle roo who has been unwell for several days - occasional limpness/paralysis the first couple days, lethargic/not moving much but alert, not eating or drinking, green, moist droppings. Been tube and syringe feeding him. Fecal sample came back positive for coccidia, but no...

    Worming w/moxidectin??

dawg53 - I remembered I had a pic of the weird butt hen from a few weeks ago. It's not great though, so I'll work on getting a better one when I return home in a couple days. It looks like her poops are watery but the ones I've seen her make aren't. She does have a little white crust around...

    Worming w/moxidectin??

Thanks for your responses! Percheron Chick - I asked the vet tech what worms so I would know what wormer to use but she said the results just indicated "miscellaneous parasites." Not very helpful. Last summer we had roundworms which I treated with Wazine but have seen no sign of them this...

    Worming w/moxidectin??

Searched for info on forums but not much recent that seemed relevant. Took a fecal sample to vet from a hen that has a weird butt (possibly vent gleet?? I can't figure it out.) Results showed high levels of cocci and miscellaneous worms. (Most people here worm twice a year, it's very humid...

Go team "Tube Feeding!" - Updated 12/29/2019

Thank you casportpony and everyone else who offered instructions and support here and on other tube feeding threads. I am writing to encourage others who may be nervous about or struggling with tube feeding. Last month my 3 lb sizzle rooster stopped eating, drinking, and moving about much. He...

Drake in jail...to cull or not to cull?

Thank you all for your responses. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me figure this out. I'm still not sure what to do, but I don't feel right keeping him locked up much longer. He needs to be on the pond and doing ducky things if I'm going to keep him The hen is hanging in there...

Drake in jail...to cull or not to cull?

I have 10 runners: 9 hens, 1 drake. Drake and most of the hens are 5 months old. Last week I was horrified to find the drake mating so aggressively with a hen that he tore away her skin from under her eye to the base of her neck. I don't know for certain that he caused the injury because I...

    LGD love!

Thank you for the responses so far. This is exactly the kind of thing I need to know. I'm not certain a LGD is a good fit for us and certainly wouldn't get one on a whim but would want to be fully prepared. We have been discussing fencing, particularly along the border where the neighbor dogs...

    LGD love!

I'm so glad I found this thread. I am considering getting a LGD to protect my birds from the neighbor dogs that occasionally get loose and have killed some of my birds. I'm afraid to let my birds free range unless we are outside with them because I never know if those pests will show up. I have...

    The Buckeye Thread

Thanks, Minniechickmama! I found a copy of the standards so I'll see what I can do with that. To me they all look the same though! I understand what you mean that it would take a while for someone to walk me through it step by step. I'm imagining the Westminster dog show with those judges...

    The Buckeye Thread

Minniechickmama - just wanted to say you are so right about it not always being about the money. I so enjoy sharing information and ideas with other chicken people. It's fun to see what other people have and like and to share what you have and like. I advertised my pairs on the local group...
