Somebody here is selling their whole goat herd and supplies for only $500! I don't have the space, but I wish I did :( oh well... Another opportunity will come up in a few years, right!
My chickies don't like bananas either! Although I've smashed them and mixed it with flax seed and BOSS and they will eat it then!
We get a phone book, but we also get our info online. I hate that we still get the phone book, what a waste of paper!
Sounds like the coop tour was fun :)...
I have clay - for some reason I thought I read that adding sand will make it worse. I can't remember where, but definitely check before you do. I just made raised beds, dug the top 10 inches and mixed it with manure/mulch/top then filled the beds The rest of the way.
Oops, didn't notice you were talking to newbie, Kentucky. saw the wind break part and thought you were responding to Mara asking if I had any desert plants that would work as a wind break :)
Yep!! We have quite a few food sources here. The Sonoran desert is actually full of life. We have trees and lots of other plants. I love our wildflower season - just beautiful.
I'm not sure what you could eat on an ironwood. I do want one though, but they grow pretty slow. I have 7-8 mesquites...
Hi :) I'm hoping for Nigerians when I get them. It would be my next thing, but I do live in an hoa that says you can't have them. It also says we can't have chickens and I'm not the only one with those lol! The neighbors won't mind, but I figure I should put a privacy fence up first so it isn't...
Is the 5x15 an open "run" too or does it have some space that is wind/sun protected? Do the birds free range or do they spend all their time in there?
I like the dog run, but would add a "coop" space that is more protected. We don't get super cold here, but we do go below freezing...
Aww, she is so cute! I would like goats eventually... Probably way down the line. I do have a drip system in place. I like the newspaper idea, but we have crazy high winds so unless I staked it I would be lucky if it lasted a day.
Are the goats for milk, fun, or meat?
Honestly they aren't super noisy in the coop since they pretty much just sleep there. I'm guessing you won't have a roo to deal with. If you are worried about it insulation might work.
The irrigation thing is a neat idea! I made a PVC line irrigation attached to soaker hoses, but I think the pots are a great idea. I have lots of shade cloth if that is what you mean by the mesh. You can't see it in the pic (actually, maybe it's not even there since that pic was right after I...
Love the greenhouse cedar! Hubby used to work at a nursery and had a greenhouse at his home, but I have never used one. I can't say I have any ideas for snow load on the roof though - you could go with glass instead of the plastic, but that might be crazy expensive.
