Help please - Soft Shelled Eggs everyday and not sure what to do

I’m having egg shell problems as well almost the whole summer laying season. I have identified one hen who lays shell-less eggs.. a membrane only.. sometimes still intact. Another “unidentified hen” lays a thin shell egg that is usually cratered at the pointed end. Almost always in the nest box...

    Roosting bar “tower”

If I were going to make do with those beautiful wooden boxes inside the coop, I would definitely lower them from that 36” height to maybe 16-18”. I like to make it real easy for the hens to lay my breakfast! 🍳 The roost being higher at about 36” should discourage them from sleeping in the boxes...

    Roosting bar “tower”

Don’t fret, it’s normal for pullets to have some accidents when they first start laying. I would definitely move the nest box out into your run while you get things remodeled in the coop. Give her as much privacy as possible. Maybe staple a piece of fabric to hang down at least halfway over the...

    Roosting bar “tower”

I looked at your run photos and it looks fantastic! Your hens must love it!👍 I do have some ideas for your coop. Seems you’re pressed for space, especially floor space. You’ve put a lot of work into your sawhorses and tower stands I know..but, It’s going to be a nightmare to clean floors with...

    Radiant Barrier Inside of Coop

Ok..I installed roof/wall outer sheathing with the thin shiny radiant barrier covering facing the inside of my coop. Then I stretched 6 foot-1” poultry fence onto the inside of my studs to keep the hens from pecking at it. 18 months later and it’s working great. Pic below.

I remember collecting used soda bottles and selling them for 3 cents each to buy penny candy (Mary Jane’s) and 5 cent Snickers bars.

Automatic coop doors: I'd love your input

Thanks for the tip..I wish i had thought of that..Mine has been installed for only a couple weeks.I find that it always closes eventually after 2-3 tries. I really don’t want to do the reinstall but i may have to when i return from vacation. My neighbor will be checking on them while i’m gone. 🤞

Automatic coop doors: I'd love your input

I was gifted this door by my brother. He saw it at the local Bargain Bins and picked it up for $6 i think. I installed it this week cause we’re going away for 10 days and it’ll give my 14 hens some freedom to be in the fenced run all day. It has a pinch proof feature and it’s solar powered. The...

Pullets no longer laying in nesting boxes

I have been told by more experienced farmers than myself that hens prefer a nesting box that is elevated about 18 inches or so, with a landing at the entrance for access and regress. I have both wooden and metal boxes. My hens prefer the metal ones for some unknown reason. This is my fourth...
