Thanks for the reply. Two of the new hens are 25 weeks and one of them are 1 year old.
I have had eight chickens before without problem in my coop. Its 3x2 meters. The new flock sleeps inside under the main roosts, they have done so for two days now. They have a roosting bar there.
Hello!
I have a flock of 5 girls that are two year old. I am trying to introduce 3 new girls to my flock.
I have kept them in a fenced off area both in the coop and during daytime in the run. It's now day three, and it is a bit of a challenge to keep them fenced off, because the new ones...
Thank you for the pictures. The spots was not like any of these. They were big and white, but not like the last picture because it wasn't bumps. And they were all over and not only on the liver.
Maybe she had a type of cancer because of the spots and the ascites, and because she did not...
Thank you.
I did a very brief necropsy yesterday after I calmed down a bit, and found LOTS of ascites. Also all the organs had white spots all over them. What do you think the white spots was?
Unfortunately, I did not take a picture, and she is buried now.
Update: She suddently wanted to get up to poop, and then her heart stopped and she died in my arms. :hit Don't feel like she suffered much, so I think it was peaceful for her.
I have done everything I could for her.
I know I should do an autopsy, but I don't know if I am able to
I have a 2,5 year old hen. She have been having trouble laying soft shelled eggs for a very long time (maybe 6 months to a year). I have been giving her extra calcium, but it hasn't helped. I haven't seen her lay an egg in over a month at least. She has been acting normal until this weekend...
I have six birds now. You can't see the ventilation on this picture as it is opposite to the roosting bars, but it's just a few degrees hotter inside the coop than outside, so I think the ventilation is good enough and we only have daytime temps above 68 degrees (20 degrees celcius) for maximum...
My chickens are used to mostly cold weather and tolerate that very well. We live in the arctic in Europe. My coop is designed for very cold climate, but I do have ventilation also. The last month we have had very nice and warm weather, with day temperatures up to 80 degrees. The chickens seems...
Thanks! Yeah; and I found this article with a much lower dosage than what I got prescribed:
"Treatment birds received an oral suspension dosed at 16 mg/kg TMP and 80 mg/kg SMZ every 48 hours (on days 1, 3, 5, and 7); TMP tablets were additionally dosed at 25 mg/bird on days 1, 3, 5, and 7, and...
One of my hens have salpingitis. She has been acting totally normal (eating, drinking, foraging) and there is no swelling in her abdomen, but she layed a lash egg a few weeks ago and been laying soft shelled eggs ever since. Been giving her meloxicam and calcium and oregano oil.
This night she...
Just wanted to update in case anyone googles and find this thread later.
My conclusion is that she had an partially impacted crop. Not egg bound. So I kept massaging her crop and gave her some yoghurt, and now she is completely healthy.
No they get this feed made for flocks with rooster and hens. Many people use this without any problems and the other eggs have calcium deposits almost every day so it's not the calcium that is the problem. That is why they get the shell sand too, so that they can regulate their own intake. The...
Two years old. I think she lays soft shelled eggs quite regularly, and I think she might have layed a soft shelled egg this night on the roost because this morning I found one under the roosts, and maybe it was her egg because everyone else have been laying in the nest box today. So therefore I...
I have a two year old hen. It started three days ago when she was trying to lay an egg in the evening when the others were going to roost for the night. It ended with her not laying an egg, but I could not feel any egg around her vent area, so I concluded with her not being egg bound.
The...
