Moved to Gillette a year and a half ago, now wanting a new coop since not easy to get eggs out of this one. Going to try to get a shed to share with hubby's stuff and hen house. We'll see. Anyone else shaare a small shed/coop?
I have a black gold chicken hen about 6 years old. She has frizzled wing feathers and dry skin, pin feathers sticking out of her stomach and wings, and a dry skin nub at base of tail losing feathers. What is wrong?
It is safe DE and I will add some regular dirt to it. I have potting soil but it has fertilizer in it. I will try to find some earth around the house that isn’t all clay. I have some sand around the sprinkler system that’s not working right now. I can enlarge some dog holes!!
I introduced a dust bath to my year old hens and they are ignoring it - how do I introduce them to it and get them to use it? It is diatomaceous earth in a large round rubber feed bin. I also want to introduce one to my three chicks who are starting to fledge out in feathers. I need help!
Still working on inside roosts and nests, have some wood crates coming for nests. A little concerned about coop placement inside lean to with small run, plans to build a larger run doglegged in front of garage wall. more full size pics in gallery.
My first were Rainbows and Rhode Island Red. 4 of each. then my dog killed them all! So Devastating because i raised them from baby chicks. They barely had just gotten all their feathers on. Then I got 3 older pullets - a Black Gold, Rhode again and one called a blue egg layer. Dog got those...
