What are the advantages of joining the American Bantam Association? (Does anyone sing that in their head like Garth's American Honky Tonk Bar, Association, LOL ) I don't plan on showing birds, but wouldn't be opposed, except to the docking combs part. I would be interested in breading...

    Bear!

Yea, I swear, NC has bears instead of fleas. I trout fish on the Tennessee side of those mountains. I now eat far from where I camp. I also camp/fish there with a S&W 44 magnum on my hip.

    Keeping a clean coop...

Wow! I've been wasting too much money! I've been cleaning my wood chips out once a week, and I put down several inches. I'm going to try this method of adding some fresh pine shavings on top with DE, and try cleaning it bi-monthly. That would make 6 complete cleanouts a year.

    Bear!

    I second that idea. :)

    Bear!

Me too on both. I've been here longer than that, but beers just made it to my county about 10 years ago. Chickens, my first was a very special rescue rooster, Reuben, pictured in my icon. Initially, the plan was to improve his health and attitude, then rehome him. I became attached, he...

    Bear!

The fellow above was found at "Indian Grave Gap Trail" just SW of Townsend, Tennessee, at the edge of the GSM-NP. (taken about three weeks back) My son lives close, and I'm not too far, we like enjoying the trails there. All of the Eastern border counties in Tennessee have beers. I don't live...

    Good-by Reuben.

Reuben seems to like his new place, I hope he likes his three new hens. I had 0 hens, so it has to be better.

    Good-by Reuben.

Well, I've had my lone rooster, Reuben for six months now, and we have become fast friends. Sadly, The one bad habit I can't break him of us bullying my wife. Honestly, and unintentionally, I think she makes it too much fun for him to chase her. So this morning, I am rehoming Reuben, to a...

    Short Silly question

Barred Rock. Thanks for all the info. If I end up with this hen, I'll keep them separate for a while.

    Ruben

Thank you. And I am proud of him. Initially, I took him in because he was "heck on chicken-feet". But after a bit of spoiling, he is a different bird. Incredibly nosey, but lovable. You can't do anything in the yard without him sticking his beak in it. (Literally) Today, I was cleaning...

    Short Silly question

I have a single rooster. No other chickens. I have a friend that may need a hen rescued. It seems that this particular hen is getting abused by the other chickens. Would it be okay to add one hen to a rooster?

    Ruben

This is Ruben. He is getting quite used to living here, and I'm still working on getting him some hens. I may be overfeeding him a bit. He's getting big. He gave me a good laugh today. He isn't big on limes. I made it up to him with freshly grated carrots and crushed corn.
