Review by '' on item 'Australorp'

Don't base your purchase on my review, because I only have one Australorp. I just figured I should put in a review, in case it helps anyone. I included an Australorp in my chick order because of the great reviews. Unfortunately, the one we got is not the nicest hen. I love all of my "children"...

    White Easter Egger?

This is Pearl, our beautiful white EE. Her sister started laying this week (brown eggs, ugh!), so Pearl shouldn't be too far behind. You can see pics of baby Pearl and her sister a couple of posts above this.

Necrotic Enteritis - Brown blood 4 days into treatment normal?

Oh, and I had treated with Corid just before this, thinking it was Cocci. Maybe I'll do it again. She's had cocci before so maybe she has it again. This poor chicken has been so sickly. We love her though.

Necrotic Enteritis - Brown blood 4 days into treatment normal?

Thank you, everyone! I was finally able to get back on here. I gave her 6 days of Tylan and she's doing great. I freaked out because I saw blood on her perch and on her feathers, but it turned out that she broke a toenail! There is no blood at all and poops look normal, so I'm going to watch...

Necrotic Enteritis - Brown blood 4 days into treatment normal?

I have a hen, Buttercup, who has never laid eggs. She is over a year old and has always been kid of sickly. She was ill all winter with various things and kept in the house. She is doing well and gained weight and is back in the coop, but she started pooping blood last week. This looked more...

    are my chickens stupid?

Ditto what Forgetful said. They are just babies with no guidance. Chickens (especially chicks) are very cautious when it comes to anything new. It's not that their stupid. They're actually being smart! It's part of their survival instinct. You need to place them in it and let them get used to...

    Chick With Curled Toes

Now that I'm looking at your chick, I wonder if they came from the same hatchery and are sisters. They look alike and have the same exact toes. Kind of weird! I'm in NH though, and bought from a feed store. They could have come from anywhere. My other EE chick is very flightly like yours. She's...

    Chick With Curled Toes

Chickymama83 - I think it helped. I only left them on for 1 1/2 days and her toes are straighter. I plan to re-splint today. I also added a branch to the brooder for the girls to grasp on to. I thought it might help her get the toes into position.

    Chick With Curled Toes

I'm not sure, but I read it can be due to fast growth. Sparrow is a really big girl. Or it could be a vitamin deficiency, or just genetic. I also added a branch with varying thicknesses for her to grab on to when the splints come off. I think it will help if she "wills" her toes into a grasping...

    White Easter Egger?

This is our white EE Pearl, with her sister Sparrow. They are 2 days shy of 4 weeks. Pearl is very nervous and shy. Sparrow is very friendly and curious. They are quite a pair! (Hopefully a pair of girls.)
