Best rooster breed for backyard flock?

What is the least aggressive breed? My best and kindest rooster was a silver laced Wyandotte and raised from a chick. But we also had a smaller one (same breed) at the same time that was good natured. In 18 years, those were the only two that did not end up in the stew pot. Yet, I have never...

Ducks Won't Go Into the Pond

I was on here about 3 years ago with the same issue. My ducks never made it in the water, sad to say. We lived close to an Amish community and someone with a pond and ducks took mine. I am hoping that they eventually followed his ducks in. What you are experiencing is very common. Be patient...

    Ducks are scared of pond

It just really surprises me. I figured they would want to be out there.

    Ducks are scared of pond

I don’t think my ducks would know a turtle if they saw one. They have not been on the water but just a couple of days. When I moved them down there they were terrified of the edge of the water. We have a very small pond. I think it may be because I raised in my chickens and turkeys that maybe...

Comment by 'Here Chicky' in item 'Ancona'

I raised 4 this spring. They are only three months old. They absolutely love their kiddie pool but I cannot get them to go in the pond. That was the purpose for raising them. I’m at a loss to figure out what to do with them.

    Ducks are scared of pond

i raised 4 Ancona ducks with chickens and turkeys. They are 3 months old and I just separated them and have them in a pen on the edge of our pond. They are scared to death to go near the water. I don’t have turtles or other prey. They had a plastic kiddie pool that they loved so I thought they...

    Hens are dying. Why?

I didn't think about parasites. Whether that is the cause or not it brings up a good point that I need to get that done! So far, none of the other hens are showing any kind of stress. I am praying that those two were just the grandmas of the flock and just simply were at the end of their life...

    Hens are dying. Why?

It's obviously too late to quarantine them now. Plus, I don't really have the facilities to do that. I am probably going to have to let this play out and see what happens. I hate to lose all my girls to stupidity!

    Hens are dying. Why?

No. They were molting but several of them are. That started before the other ones arrived. The rest seem to be very active where these two just simply sat down and couldn't get up.

    Hens are dying. Why?

I have 9 buff orphangtons, and 3 polish hens. Some of the buffs are up to five or six years old. Last spring a friend wanted to start a small flock so I purchased 5 orphangtons from the hatchery I have used for several years, had them vaccinated for Mereks and raised them till they were 6...
