They are running out of room, but it’s between 20-30 degrees at night for the next week. I had removed the heat lamp, but just put it back with a red light to help deter pecking the wounded chicks.
I have 14 5-week-old chicks in a brooder. Until today, they have all got along without any incidents. Two of my chicks had pecking wounds, one pretty significant. I blue coated them and put a red light on them, and waited and watched to find out who was the culprit. Didn’t take long. One fiesty...
I have a chicken who is standing erect. Her tail is dragging on the ground. Her wings are not tight against her body. She seems healthy otherwise. At least eating and drinking and going outside to forage. It looks like a serious skeletal problem that came on suddenly. Could be an injury, but she...
Performed crop surgery on my hen yesterday for an impacted crop. I can't believe I did it and she is actually doing well! Just gave her some water this morning. My question is, how long before I give her any food and how long should I keep her confined?

Thank you so much for all of your information. It was extremely helpful. We are actually building a little cage inside the coop so whenever we need to separate a bird, we can. Now I feel confident about the big move. Thanks again.
I am very new to raising chickens. Have wanted to for awhile now, but my husband wasn't on the band wagon. Then one day about 4 weeks ago, he surprised me with 24 (yes 24!) baby chicks in a 150 gallon tub and a plan for a coop. Awww. Thank goodness for this site, that's all I have to say. Talk...
