I use grandpa feeders. One smaller one in their coop and a larger one in the run. No waste, wild birds can't use it, hold a lot of feed and chickens learn to use it pretty quick.
For watering i have a couple of versions from here https://www.dineachook.com.au/categories/Chicken-Waterer/

My rooster was the smallest for quite a while. Then all of a sudden he was twice the size of the others and crowing :-) Her name was Spice - but it's stuck now he's a boy.
Hi all...this lot are about 14 weeks old (asked before but was too early) as I think I have 3 roosters and 1 pullet and need to start thinking of housing arrangements if that is the case.
Hoping the photos are ok, I tried my hardest. The brown, black and Silkie x all have very small combs at...
$488 if I wanted to keep more than the allowable number :lau:lau:lau But seeing as that is 320 for my property I think I'll be fine. (Only allowed 8 roosters though). Is a continual permit though so once off fee.
The breeder I got my daugther's silkies off recommended them...I think I have at least 1 (and possibly 2) roosters out of 4 so will be needed them in the near future. My daugther isn't keen on them becoming dinner
I can have roosters, I just have enough native birds waking me up at the...
I have a 1year old leg horn who I thought was off the lay as she was moulting. I got a tiny egg from her about 2 months ago, and nothing since. Yesterday she sang her egg song while out free ranging. I checked around where she was, but found no egg.
Then I heard another one this morning...
Did add water the other day - but maybe not enough. Will try drenching it. Great idea with the shrub too! Might move the earth into the vege garden...always plenty of water there.
Any help appreciated.
We are unable to get a good earth and our guess is poor soil. Soil is clay on shale and very dry. Have gone 1.2metres (3 feet) into ground with our earth and no joy. Have tried with multiple earth rods (the 1.2 metre one, then 3 that came with the fence (1-2 feet) in...
I have electric polutry fencing (although not currently 'hot' as we can't solve the earthing problem). It give my girls a massive, contained free range space, and so far they haven't tried to climb out. Easier (and maybe cheaper) than permanent fencing.
What she said ...mine look very disgruntled when I don't open the gate.
Mine get out about 3:30 on week days when I get home, and on the weekends it's closer to lunch time (depending on egg numbers). But any time I'm up there they head to the gate and fuss around hoping I'll let them out.
Mine had several acres to wander over - plus the neighbours 3+ acre lawn, but they always seemed to be in my herb garden, flower beds or mulched banks, on my porch. So they have now be confined to a free range area to keep them out of unwanted places (electric - so a bit more expensive). Much...
