6 day old McMurray keets having trouble with temp or feed?

I just noticed you said the water is under the heatlamp. Is the water getting hot? If the water gets too warm or hot they may not be drinking it. You could try giving them fresh cool water and move it away from the heatlamp. I always put the food and water on the side of the brooder box away...

6 day old McMurray keets having trouble with temp or feed?

It could be a protein deficiency 16 % is low for a starter especially guineas. I use a 24% dumor chick starter. Guineas are considered a game bird and they do make a game bird starter. Purina has one that is 30% that they recommend feeding to them til they are 6 weeks old but I have always used...

Why Do Chickens Run Around After Head is Cut Off?

A killing cone is used to restrain the chicken so it does not run around and damage the meat also to let it bleed out. You put the chicken in it upside down and cut its jugular vein in the neck and let it bleed out.

    Chickens are stupid??

I wouldn't call my chickens stupid but they are not Einsteins either. However they do have the ability to learn and adapt to their surroundings. Example: I have a rooster that is blind from fighting with another rooster he is one of my favorites so I gave him a chance to see if he could find his...

Now all...

Do my home-grown eggs have Salmonella?

There is a way to pasteurize eggs, just Google pasteurizing eggs. I personally have not tryed to pasteurize eggs so how well it works I don't know. I just use fresh clean eggs that have not been soiled by chicken poo when a recipe calls for raw eggs and have not gotten sick from it, so use your...

    Stink bug invasion

I had them bad for years but did not have as many last year and have only seen 4 on the outside of the house so far this year. The way we have been dealing with them is using a shop vac with a drywall bag which I would use to clean ashes out of the wood stove and then go around the inside of the...

What is your friendliest Chicken? What breed is it?

My big Light Sussex rooster named Jelly Bean would be my friendliest. He gets up on my lap and goes to sleep. He never bites or pecks me.
