    Chickens attacking chicken

My chicken, who has been with the same chickens since birth is now being attacked on her head by another chicken. How can we stop this? We tried chicken jail for about 8 hrs a day.....didn't work. Eating plenty.....very good food.....she's just being attacked by a bully

First time dealing with a Broody hen

We tried so many things when our Black Austerlorp was broody - 4 different times since Spring. We took her out of the hen house and she'd run right back inside, making noises like Predator - it was scary! Eventually had to put her in chicken jail - a large dog cage with a cover on top (so the...

    Repetitive Broody Hen

I also have 2 black austerlorps = one is on her second broody binge in 2 months. It's so hard to break her. I had put her in broody jail (large dog cage) with food/treats. She ate without issue, but as soon as she went out at night, back in then nesting box. Finally seemed to break her but...

Hello everyone! I've gotten myself into a predicament...

I live in Northern Westchester, NY - plenty of bear, fox, bobcats and mountain lions.....then there are the flying predators. You'll need to either invest in a coop that is big enough, comfortable nesting boxes and fully enclosed with a roof that isn't as exposed to birds flying over (disease)...

    What's your flock's favorite treat?

My gals like meanworms, but chopped parsley and any dark green veges chopped are MUCH more attractive to them. They are kind of getting tired of the mealworks and multi insect/nut mix.

chicken is screaming every time she lays an egg - not sure that's really normal

My Welsummer (one of the two) is really screaming like someone's killing her each time she lays an egg. Is it possible there is an issue? Once there was a little blood on the egg....afraid I'm not handling this properly. Another issue is one of our two Black Austerlorps isn't laying. She was...

Dirt under hen house in the coop

Hey fellow chicken moms and dads, I have a few important questions I hope you can help with. I have a 21/14 fully enclosed coop area with a hen house sitting about 1/2 ft off the ground with a ramp. The ground outside the house is not graded and puddles are an issue - I have to change the...

    covering our enclosure

Thanks - that's what I was thinking - clear tarp, at least over 1/2. I don't want them to bake in there and the wind on a ridge where we live is really crazy strong sometimes, but I think it's a good idea if we bungy it down?? We have wire mesh on the top, so we can attach it on the sides...
