My new breeding groups! <3 I've got a Mille Fleur pair and a trio of Porcelains. I don't yet have a good pic of the Porcelain cock.
These are the parent birds to the 20 split in the brooder that I posted a few comments up. The porcelain hens have slightly large combs, but the MF hen's is...
Overall, chickens don't start laying until around 18 weeks. But.....that's the very earliest and I think it's possible a tad earlier, but not the norm. I keep reading in this thread (and I'm still very early in scrolling through it, that a lot of people say theirs started around 7-8 months...
On Saturday I picked up a whole brooder full - 20 Mille Fleur/Porcelain d'Uccle "split tos" that were hatched on 4/2 and 4/3. They were hatched from show stock. They're the friendliest chicks I've brooded so far, aside from my red frizzled bantam cochin cock "Billy the Kid". They hop out of...
One of my hens went broody right after hurricane Irma and wouldn't get over it. So I plopped 4 eggs under her so she wasn't wasting her time. She hatched one and then gave up on the rest of the eggs. LOL! But she's so happy with the one little. :love
Mine seem to love to hang out in the rain, especially my cockerel, Billy. They have a little fenced in and covered yard around the coop and unless it's a torrential downpour Billy is out there acting like it's nothing to get drenched. LOL! He's had no issues from getting wet so far.
Here are pics from the little mini photo shoot after she was here for a few days and had calmed down. She is so lovely! I've got these two moved outside now with my red frizzle and this girl next to Billy make a beautiful match! They really bring out each others' color. I'll get some outside...
As soon as my internet gets turned back on I'll post more. Kind of a pain from my phone. LOL!!
Your frizzle hen is SO lovely!!! I love her so much! :love
Thanks! There are a small few people breeding the mille fleur Frizzles, but I got Billy from a breeder who had actually ordered the Frizzles from a hatchery. After I get the new frizzle cockerel, and three hens to go with him, I'm planning on breeding them. If you keep in touch I just may have...
Oh fantastic! You got answers for questions I had too. :) I just sent them an email as well, but then decided to do some searching on BYC.
How did banding your chickens work out? Are the Jiffy size 3 good for both bantams and the large fowl, or do you know?
Thanks!! Billy is quite a little butthead if I don't give him enough attention. He decided very early on in the brooder that I'm his person. He would come running to the door when I'd open it and hop right onto my lap. HAHA!! I've been drooling over her website for a while now and am so...
My little red cockerel grew up and is so pretty. I posted about my frizzle trio back in March. We named him Billy the Kid because he's so full of attitude, but I love him so much. He's deft hooked me on Bantam Cochins. The white one turned out to be a frazzle and wasn't thriving too well so...
Thank you for your input! That makes sense. Once I got them home, and have really had a chance to look at them, I think they're a good combination of roundness with not too short necks. Not sure why the MF looks so "J" shaped in the pics in the car, but maybe she was just on high alert or...
@WestKnollAmy in looking back on your MFC website page, I feel like my darker girl looks a lot like one you said didn't fit into your breeding program but had good coloring ---> same back shape. Are my two and their parents not typey enough? They seem like they have longer necks, but my two...
I've been reading this thread, from the beginning, for about a week now. I'm only on page 249 today. HAHA!! But I can actually join the ranks of you MFC people now. I just picked up these two girls yesterday. They are so sweet and tiny! Hatched first week of February this year, so 6 months...
