Need help please! Malpositioned chick pipped side of shell, not in air sac, what should I do? It’s still trying to zip but not making much progress.

Thank you! It looks like we had 7 out of 9 hatch that made it to lockdown. The last one to hatch is still a little wet so I’ll give them a little more time to dry out before placing them in the brooder. The last two are olive eggs and hard to candle other than knowing they both had air sacs. If...

He/she finally hatched, but it looks like there were membranes, maybe a little yolk(?)and egg shell from his/her bottom area. That fell off after a few minutes. One of his/her toes is flesh colored... Is this a normal variant? Anything I need to be concerned about? Poor thing had a tough hatch...

I have resisted opening the incubator since other eggs are still hatching. It’s so hard to watch and not help. I did not see it pip before the four hatched. Ever since then, the hatched chicks are playing dodge ball with the unhatched eggs 😩

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Thank you so much! The chicks did roll it once into the pip hole and I was able to flip it back over by briefly putting sanitary plastic tubing through one of the big air holes in the incubator to flip it back over.

Help please! This is our first time hatching chicks without a broody hen to do the work for us. The chicks that have hatched this morning rolled this egg aground and it looks like the chick is malpositioned and pipped the side of the egg, not into the air sac. It is still breathing and trying to...

    Older hen being bullied

My oldest hen is being bullied by a few of our other hens and our rooster. She is now staying inside the coop all the time unless we go out there to be near her for protection. There has not been any blood, but they have pulled out all of her neck feathers and she is being chased away from food...

Bloody nesting boxes and bloody eggs...

Great ideas! We just received HOA approval to fence our 2 acre backyard. I would love to let him free range eventually. We have two dogs that are great for hawk protection and when the dogs bark, all the chickens run for cover when we are out with them. In the meantime, we have the large dog...
