Ummm, ok. Lately as we've been cracking into our eggs, some have been hard-boiled. (!!!) They don't look like regular hard-boiled eggs. The have some brown-tinged whites. (Sorry for the bad photo!!)
I've already ruled out mixing up hard-boiled and fresh b/c we haven't hard-boiled our eggs in a...
It can take a few months for the treatment to work, but here is what we're doing! About every 2 weeks, we clean our chickens feet w/ water & and old toothbrush if they're really dirty. Then we dip their legs into vinegar almost up to their feathers & leave them in for a few seconds. Then, if we...
We have fed our chickens egg shells after boiling then in water for a few minutes-to kill any salmonella or anything like that. We crush them up and they like em! But we weren't getting enough eggs to do it with, so we give then oyster shell instead now. It makes me feel better knowing they have...
Yes! Put it in your compost! You can do that with straw/shaving or sand. I use sand as bedding b/c when you clean out the coop you can just scrape out the poop with a piece of hardware cloth into the compost. Less waste!

The scales on my hens' feet near the nail are raised. Is this an early stage of scaly leg mites?
Pardon their dirty feet-it just rained. :)
If it is scaly leg mites, I heard you can use gasoline and A&D ointment to get rid of them. (?!)...
We have 7 chickens, and one turned out to be a rooster. We don't want fertilized eggs, so does anyone know of a vet that castrates roosters in the DFW area? I only found one and they wanted $320 to do it.
Please let me know!
