    Coop design in barn

Got it done! I used exterior plywood ($54/sheet!) for the floor but decided to leave that as is instead of covering it further. Chicks are 6 weeks and forecasted temps are 50s/30s so i think it’s good to move them in? I did expand to 12x16’ so I didn’t have as many cuts. Nesting boxes will...

    Garage heat failed tonight

That helps! I am terribly nervous having lost a third of the flock at the start. They seem happy. Why do i read that they need to be 95-105 the first week, then go down 5 degrees each week? Is that just directly under the lamp? There are 21 chicks in the brooder.

    Garage heat failed tonight

I am brooding my chicks in a heated outbuilding not attached to the garage. I noticed tonight that the temp under the heat lamps was 79F (starting week 2) when it was in the 90’s earlier today. Found out the furnace stopped working. It’sa fuel oil furnace and the thing that talks to the...

    Greetings from Central Wisconsin

Hello, and WOW are there a lot of new introductions! We bought our 3.3 acre homestead in October here near the center of the northern Hemisphere. Just got our first batch of 33 baby chicks last Thursday as the snow storm was starting. We bought a variety of chicks for a rainbow of egg colors...
