    Water glassing in plastic

Most rural hardware stores up here sell it, in the canning supplies, Mrs Wages pickling lime. Or, if you want quantity, 50lb bags of hydrated lime, Home Depot or Menards, maybe Lowe’s.

    Water glassing in plastic

Thanks for your reply. I have easy access to the mayo jars, and a cool basement to store them in. Is it normal for the lime to settle out? I filled the jar with eggs first, then added the solution. The only possible problem I see with that is the contact point of the eggs with each other...

    Water glassing in plastic

Hello all. Today I will glass a gallon jug of eggs I have collected over the last 4 days. The jug is plastic, an industrial mayonnaise container. Is there a downside to using plastic vs glass?

Quantity of eggs vs number of hens

Thanks. I have heard about “glassing” eggs. Think I will give it a try.

Quantity of eggs vs number of hens

Ah, I didn’t clarify. 14 for each of the 2 days. I didn’t think Orpingtons laid that often

Quantity of eggs vs number of hens

I don’t know that it’s a problem…. I have 15 laying hens, Buff Orpingtons, and for the last 2 days they have produced 14 eggs. Is this unusual, or should I expect it to be the norm?

My babies ate and killed a mouse?

My chickens love eating mice. I set traps and toss the bodies into the run.

    What breed is my Rooster?

Thanks. He has nice temperament, and is not aggressive in the least.
