Main coop is 20×20...I just have a 8×8 coop inside it for laying and perching as my Leghorns free range. The chic coup is 15x15 fenced in with a runner built on front. My room is limited for now. I will be moving onto a 67 acre farm in around 5 months. It has a coop included that is huge with a...
Definitely going to try that. I did cross my mind to do a coop swap. Only reason I haven't is because my older hens coop is set up with higher perches, and my new one are set up with lower perches. The reason it is that way is because my Leghorns have some flight, and Silkies can only jump...
I got these little guys about a month ago. I've kept them in a separate coop right next to my older chickens thinking they could see them and get used to the new guys. I put them together after about month and I didnt go well. The older chickens pecked them and got very territorial. My question...
Not sure if this will help, but it works great for me. Haven't lost one yet. I keep a radio outside of my coops. Put it on a talk show of some sort to give the impression humans are around. I live in the sticks, and see predators on a daily basis. It has worked for over a year for me so may be...
Silkies do seem like slow learners. I will try it out on my Leghorns first, they are really smart. Going to check the feed store aart, if they dont have them I'm sure Amazon will
It is 8 weeks old. The breeder said it was a frill, but I looked online and found nothing. The cuckoo silkie that was mentioned on first reply looks almost identical. It's a sweet chic, and a great teaching bird to teach my kids how to handle chickens and so on. Just unsure on breed
Great advice aart!! I water them daily. I've seen a lot of the PVC feeder, I believe I will give it a go. I bought lots of PVC to make a runner for the Silkies, but found one for free lol. So need to use it. Where is a good place to get the nipples? Tractor Supply? Feed Store?
It does look different than the other Silkies. I looked up a picture and would say your right. Couldn't find any other Silkie that looked even close to the Cuckoo Silkie you said. I'm no silkie pro either lol
My Leghorns I'm not to worried about trying out the nipple idea because they are super fast learners. I hate to say it, but my Silkies aren't the sharpest tools in the shed lol. That's my concern. I have access to 5 gallon buckets as well so may give it a shot, wouldn't hurt to try.
Awesome!! I appreciate the help Feather, had the cuckoo part correct. I was thinking frizzle due to the feather pattern, but the head was different. I'm new to Silkies so knowing this helps a lot.
