Hurrah! They've finally started laying! After months of only 2 and 3 eggs off and on out of 20+ hens I'm finally getting 8 & 9 eggs everyday this week! I don't know what changed - maybe they heard me muttering about the stew pot:D

I wonder if cayenne pepper would keep snakes & other pests out too?

I'll bet your dog will be wary of snakes from now on - copperhead bites hurt like heck! (personal experience) Most doctors don't want to give the anti-venom unless there's respiratory distress because it's made from horse products which can cause an allergic reaction worse than the snake bite...

It's been up to 90 here lately but they have a shady run. Snakes are possible but it would take a lot of snakes to eat what they should be producing in a day. I'm thinking about trying some high protein goodies like sunflower seeds to see if that helps.

They've been on layer feed for over 2 months. I figure the third egg had to have come from one of the new girls - but it doesn't happen very often.
