    Something wrong with her butt

Hen appears to be healed as of today. No more prolapse. No dripping vent. Her vent feathers are pristine since there's no leak and she can properly preen. She's been laying eggs this entire time, maybe every other day. Glad I didn't have to cull. Thank you for the assistance. Likely diagnosis...

    Something wrong with her butt

Continue the daily preparation H or no? And how sure can I be if she has vent gleet? I need to be 99% sure of what she has before any treatment. I'm 99% sure she has a minor prolapse. I saw other posts of prolapse and all those hens had the same messy vent feathers. They are messy because of the...

    Something wrong with her butt

(I forgot to hit post with this reply yesterday). I've added preparation H around her vent to her daily treatment of 1 calcium citrate pill. She puts up the biggest fight over that pill (that I cut in half to give her separate pieces). Her vent feathers are not as disastrous, but still messy. No...

    Something wrong with her butt

Happy new year. Today and yesterday, she laid an egg. She still has goo coming out of her vent and her vent feathers are a mess. That blood you see in the picture is just a blood covered feather. She bleeds when the egg comes out. I'm giving her a calcium citrate pill once daily. Is this just a...

    Something wrong with her butt

Update today: Yesterday, I isolated her and she's by herself inside a kennel in the paddock with the rest of her flock. She has laid a solid nice looking egg in her kennel this morning (I threw it away). Her vent looks the same, though. It's a mess back there. She still has this goo all over her...

    Something wrong with her butt

Ok. Will continue on. "Edit" I do not know if she's passing eggs or egg parts." Here is an update as of today, which is day #3 for this hen. I decided to give her an epsom salt bath today, since her vent area is looking pretty disastrous. I gave her one pill of calcium citrate. She still has a...

    Something wrong with her butt

Thanks. I don't know if you recall, but you provided that link on post #5. I followed it. Went to town and got the calcium citrate. I see now where it says to administer for about 3 weeks or so. I am checking in to see if she is moving along like expected or if she needs something more.

    Something wrong with her butt

Update on 12/28/2024. Hen is still behaving normally. Her butt opening still looks odd. I put another calcium citrate in her beak today, took a picture of her butt and some of her poop (I just happened to be there when she dropped some). Also, she is dripping some gooey fluid drops from her...

    Something wrong with her butt

But last year they didn't slow down at all through Winter. I'm guessing the slow down is because they are almost 2 years old...since they are golden comets I would assume that's when they start to slow down, based on internet searches. They also have not molted yet. They were born Feb 28, 2023...

    Something wrong with her butt

I went into town and bought some calcium citrate +D3, after reading that post thread. Came back to give it to her and her butt was back to normal when I caught her and picked her up (it's still a dirty mess back there). So I put that pill in her beak. She wouldn't swallow it. So I opened her...

    Something wrong with her butt

Hi, thank you for the reply. I do not know how to treat prolapsed vent, if that's what she has.

    Something wrong with her butt

    1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Golden comet hen, almost 2 years old. Not lighter or thinner than others in her flock. She looks and acts normal at the moment, except for her butt. 2) What is the behavior, exactly. Her...
