i am kinda surprised on how good this went.
i was not collecting that many eggs at a time.
i was letting them sit a room temp until i had enough, around 15.
i started getting more eggs just before incubation, i even add some at the start of incubation
kinda cool to raise your own.
i do not have...
JMF has been fair in my dealings with them - on two occasions. stuff happens. mother nature in the summer can be quite difficult, i am happy to keep my quail and rabbits alive.

i am getting double yolk eggs, has anyone incubated their double yolkers?
i wish to incubated my own eggs. is 80 ambient temp too warm, until i collect enough?
i am planning on collecting around 15 eggs for incubation. instead of bothering JMF.
i guess i could just save and eat...
the glass/cup technique worked for me.
i kept the chicks with the problem in the bator until they could walk.
the late hatchers seem to have the most problems.
on my second hatch. much better than the first.
happy quailing
i have a hen (only one) at 16 weeks, not an egg yet. i did have a litter of rabbit, though.
rabbits need light also.
i feed 30% game bird feed.
she would be gone by now, but she is one nice quail.
good breeder if she ever lays.
happy quailing
i hatched my second batch of JMF quail eggs - 85% hatch rate - i have 16 quail at this time.
from my first batch i only have a hen and a rooster. my hen has not laid any eggs.
i keep my hen and rooster in separate cages.
my questions is should i process this hen and roo and just go with the...
thanks all.
i will ponder the situation some more.
i am leaning towards more JMF eggs, but i am having surgery in the near future. not sure if i can care for them. you know it is hard work looking into the incubator.
if i read correctly they become fertile at about 7/8 weeks.
so i have about...
this is my first attempt raising quail. i have coturnix quails, i ended up with two hens and four roosters.
the ratio i wanted was one rooster and four or five hens.
they are at five weeks.
my ratio will now be one rooster and two hens
i need at least two more hens.
should i buy more eggs to...
well i have 8 cot chicks out of the 15 i paid for.
i had 10 that hatched but 2 did not make it.
i kinda surprised myself, i think the results are good, for a first timer.
i will get another batch probably in about 3 weeks.
all look healthy, eating, drinking, and pooping.
my fan in my...
thanks all.
there are other feed stores in the area. not as close to the house.
i will check with them.
i might even buy more eggs, until i can produce my own.
i thought i could be game bird starter by the pound.
i was wrong, i have to buy $23, 50 pound bag.
i only have 20 cot in incubator.
i hope the feed will keep and all my eggs come true.
:)
any suggestions, i am only expecting about 6/7 chicks.
the 29th is my hatch date
thanks great forum.
here is what i did/doing.
i got 20 eggs on thursday, i let them set pointy side down, put in bator sunday 1am and started the turn operation.
i figure the 26th is my lockdown day, should have hatching on the 29th.
on the 26th i will take them out of the tuner thing of a ma-jig-er and place on...
from what i have read on this forum is that if you keep them out of a draft they will be ok.
maybe plan on getting some tarps to make wind breaks.
one can put drop lights near the waterers to keep ice at bay.
plus the extra light might give you more eggs.
i am new to this hobby.
get eggs this...
