That’s awesome! My red dorkings are laying larger eggs now too. I had a hen that was broody for quite some time but it was still too cold outside. Now I’m hoping another one goes broody soon but we will see!
Thank you! I will have to give them a shout. I actually just lost one of my hens to an owl tonight... I was just a little late to close them up and for some reason one didn’t go back into the coop. The owl hadn’t even started eating her yet either. If only I had been a couple minutes quicker I’d...
So I’ve started getting eggs more frequently but I still believe there is only one hen laying. The last 3 eggs were about 50g. I’ll post again if they get bigger
I’ll let you know. I didn’t get any eggs yesterday but hopefully I’ll get one today. I’ve got 6 dorking hens and an Isabel Orpington hen. Really hoping to get some eggs soon! The one feels like a tease
I guess one of my girls doesn’t mind the short days and low temps. Got my first egg yesterday. I figured my birds were just hatched at the wrong time of year and I’d be waiting until spring for my first egg!
I’ve heard this from a number of others as well however my birds haven’t gone through their first spring yet. I would believe it though. The weather is getting cold and the days are shorter up here in New Hampshire. The hens are 25 weeks (ish) and haven’t started to lay yet. I fear they won’t...

How did it turn out?? I just had an incubator problem that fried 53 quail eggs. I’ve got a couple dozen I put in the fridge thinking they would get eaten instead of incubated. Gonna go for it
He was free ranged most of the time. I started with the 24% protein Dumor non medicated chick starter then switched him over to a 20% non medicated flock raiser at about 9/10 weeks.
Looks a little rough but I don’t have a plucker or anything so we just did the best we could. Still a few little black spots from where some of the feathers were still developing. I’m hoping that when I butcher the next one a little older his feathers won’t leave any little black spots. I think...
So I ended up butchering one of my younger cockerels yesterday. As they get older I’m watching them and deciding which one I want to keep. I have two left now to choose from and I’m going to let them get a bit older before I choose. The one I butchered was about 13.5 weeks old. I was pretty...
