Soak her legs in some warm soapy water (if it is not cold where you are) and VERY GENTLY use a toothbrush to clean the scales, then apply a generous amount of Vaseline onto the legs and separate her. the Vaseline will suffocate the mites.
Hey y'all,
I have this one cream legbar hen named Sandman, and DANG she has been having a rough molt. She feels fine, eating, laying, pooping, all is fine. But she UGLY. I don't have any pictures, as I don't think it needs to be a concern, but I have a question. I haven't done this yet, but is...
it looks like a breast blister. they get these from sitting on hard surfaces that rub against the skin, thus causing a blister. you should clean it well and put her inside with a soft cushion for her to lay on. spraying vetercyn is ok that is what I use sometimes but keep an eye on it.
probably a prolapse. clean it off with warm sterile water, get as much debris off as humanly possible, and if you use gloves with a little bit of Vaseline you can push it in, careful to not cause any damage. you may have to have a vet suture the wound so it does not happen again.
I'd have to talk with my parents, they don't really care about the chickens as much as I do, and I hardly ever use my phone, as I need permission to do that, and they never give me permission. I'm thinking it may have something to do with her suddenly going broody?
I know this is an older post, but could it have been a breast blister? hens typically get them from irritations on their roost, like if its dirty or there's little wood splinters poking up if you have a wooden roost
