    Neighborhood chicken genetics

He and another rooster have two hens with them. I’ve thought about snagging a few eggs before (while one neighbor puts food out sometimes and collects some eggs, to say that these chickens belong to anyone would be a stretch), but with there being two roosters in play I wouldn’t be able to be...

    Neighborhood chicken genetics

Right? He’s beautiful! He has a lot going on in the way of color, between the gold head (I think someone told me this is a “Columbian” gene), the mottled underside, and the iridescent green. I want to figure out what he is and get one like him for my flock

    Neighborhood chicken genetics

This dude (and a few others) live nearby in my neighborhood, and I see them every day on my way to work and finally got a picture! I know some people on here really know their stuff when it comes to chicken breeds and colors so if anyone knows what his deal is, let me know!

    Comb curiousity

Thanks everyone! I thought maybe they were a cross or two comb types but wasn’t sure that that was how it worked

    Comb curiousity

Our two olive egger/whatever they are chicks are now hens and laying eggs, and are finally old enough that they can be told apart by their combs. I’m curious as to which comb type they have, because they don’t like exactly like the ones on the comb type charts, so I figured I would ask on here...

    Genetic predictions?

@Cyprus @nicalandia thanks! Greatly appreciated! Am I right to think that any female chicks arising from these crosses will lay eggs that are a color blend somewhere between the color from which they hatched (different shades of light brown) and the pale blue color from which the rooster hatched?

    Genetic predictions?

I’ve gone down a rabbit hole reading about chicken genetics and still am confused as to if there is any degree of predictability as to how chicks from a particular pairing could look. I know there are some people who really know their stuff when it comes to genetics on here, so I figured I would...

    Are these standard mites or?

I haven’t caught the chickens to inspect them directly yet, but on further research and looking at the suspect feathers, it’s seeming like they’re more likely lice than mites, if only based on color and size (the Internet describes mites as brown or red and these are white) Whatever they are...

    Are these standard mites or?

hello all, Just found some feathers on the ground from one of our pullets and when I picked them up and was looking at them I noticed that they have a lot of these tiny white (or maybe light brown, hard to say with the black feathers) bugs on them. Initially just looked like dust but then I...

Not sure about the breed of your chicken(s)? Click here!

The black chicks started out with white chins and bellies but evened out into solid black over subsequent weeks, though I don’t know if that indicates anything. I’m pretty new to this hobby but trying to learn more.

Not sure about the breed of your chicken(s)? Click here!

Thanks! I appreciate it! The white and the brown hatched from larger, pale blue eggs and the black ones hatched from smaller greenish blue.

Not sure about the breed of your chicken(s)? Click here!

Here are four 12 week old chicks that one of our hens hatched; the fertilized eggs I got were blue and blue-green, and the lady said that her colored layers were Easter eggers and True Blue Whitings. One chick seems to me to be a clear Easter egger, but the two black chicks (which are identical...

    What color is this chicken?

When she was a tiny chick she was a mix of brown and yellow. Now she’s 11 weeks old and has a mix of brown and sort of orange feathers (how orange depends on the lighting). She’s an Easter Egger. I’m just curious what chicken people call a chicken with this color/pattern.

    Little rooster needs the talk

One of my pullets got injured last weekend when I wasn’t home (missing a whole patch of feathers on the back of her head) and I wasn’t sure if it was him or one of the adult hens. I added more hiding areas and haven’t seen any more injuries to her or any others, and the injured pullet is back to...
