With any “fancy” breed, you may encounter abnormalities. The marans breeds are being propagated aggressively, due to the desirable egg colors. If you have no intention of breeding and showing your birds, maybe let them live out their life as nature sees fit? Any ”minor“ abnormalities that don’t...

I have an ameraucana whose toes were straight, up until about week #6. One day i noticed she had a toe which was severely bent and “arthritic“ looking. Too late to intervene, she is now going on 2yrs old, and it hasn't hampered her one bit.
I recently had two chicks that “spraddled” and despite my best efforts, I could not get them to correct their gait. I made small ”leg correctors” out of vet tape, to no avail. End result: nature culled…. I hope your result is better than mine. 🤞
Oh wow... THAT pic looks almost exactly like one of my other roosters!(Which I was really curious about as well.) I'm going to look up the whitings and see what I can learn about em.
Thanks all, for the input.🤠👍🏻
I have 30 birds, and 10 of them are are roosters... hearing the talk about hatching, has me itching to order more!!!🤪
I may need an "intervention" soon!!
Here is my SG Dorking cockerel. They tend to be super "squatty" but can still jump quite well. Both he and the pullet are super bossy!
His hackles look like he was in an 80's hair band. LOL
Welcome to BYC, G! Poultry are soooo therapeutic, and will bring you much peace, when you need it most. (Granted, they can frustrate you too… LOL But that‘s for another day.;)
So, it’s been a few months now, and the cockerel appears to have a bit more ”character” about him. Updated pic attached, if anyone has any more guesses. I’m doubting the EE theories, at this point. 🧐
P.S. He is coming-up on 4months of age, Nov 1st.
That's a solid guess. The lacing isn't as pronounced, on mine. But that may change still. All my EE have green feet, as opposed to bright yellow. So, I'm convinced they're not EE. Just one more molting, and they should be at their "adult" plumage. The suspense is GREAT!:fl
Thanks for sharing...
Having been 40yrs since I raised chickens, I wanted to try a variety to start, and narrow it down to the breeds I liked best. It has been awesome!:clap
