Thanks for all of the replies guys. I just washed her with some peroxide for a few days, and she seems to be healing up quickly! Her egg laying wasn't even interrupted. As expected from this bird, she is one of the toughest pets I have ever had.
Thanks for replying.
This is my top hen from a group of 4 hens. I know for a fact that the others where not picking on her, but an animal attack is definitely a probability. We have a solar powered chicken door that closes at sundown so I am not sure how exactly an animal could get to them...
My top hen and one of our bantams where missing tails this morning. Upon further inspection, I noticed my top hen had been been bleeding from this area as well. My bantams tail is gone, but no blood.
I washed them both in luke warm water, to get all the debris and feces out of their vent area...
I have 4 chickens, an EE, australorp, a silkie, and a barred rock. My australorp just started laying 5 days ago, and so far she layed everyday. My silkie is too young to lay, and my EE lays green eggs every other day (she started laying 4 days ago).
My Barred Rock is where my concern is. She...
Has your chickens started doing the "squat"? That is, when you reach down to pet them, they squat with their wings a little out to the side. This usually means eggs are comings soon!
Haha, thanks guys! She lives with 3 other regular sized chickens, and is obviously on the bottom of the pecking order. Even at this age, if she is more than 10 feet away from the pack, she just sits there and cries until the other birds tend to her.
Hello BYC!
So, I bought a Partridge Silkie chick in April, that was born March, 13th. As you can see by the pictures, she isn't really a full breed. Could anyone tell me exactly what kind of bird I have here? Also, I am pretty sure it's a pullet, but any guidance on that topic would be great...
My partridge silkie (Chocobo) was born on March 8th. Which makes her about 5 weeks old.
I live in an urban area in California, and I am not allowed to own any cockrels.
What do you guy's think? Cockrel or Hen?
Thanks!
