    My Chicks all Died

Maybe I missed it somewhere; how old are your birds? If they are young, I can understand the issues of why the are dying, if they are mature, I can understand another issue why they are dying. Also, what kind of watering system are you using (that they are afraid of) not how you are getting them...

    Aggression or just a weirdo?

Sorry this is a late reply: A rooster's wing dance is an attempt to force others (hens/people) to become submissive, (establishing his dominance). When he comes up behind you, yet turns away when you tell him no, does nothing except stop him for the moment, he will test you over and over. Some...

    Fertilized quail eggs question

My last batch of incubated eggs, only half are fertilized. I have Coturnix; 1 male to 2-3 female. They are 2 years old. My question, would it be the male, even though having foam, may become sterile, or the hen, even though laying daily, could she be sterile? Or both? Is it best to just keep...

Chicks Need Trained to Go Inside Coop At Night

Have you been letting them come in and out of the coop since hatch? Then they are trained to wait on you to lift them up and put them inside. However they will eventually do it on their own. Once one gets it, the rest will eventually follow.

Chick can't sit up - lays over on its side

Possibly an onset of Marek's disease, or a misaligned/misplaced leg tendon, or dislocated hip, wry neck???

If feed stores closed and you can’t free range...

I guess I'd start a fodder station. Something I always wanted but haven't yet. That is if you can even get barley seed, if not, any grass type or oats, wheat, alfalfa would be okay with me, with this, can be used all year, others may not approve but we're just running this around, right. Than...

Rooster struck at husband, now me. What can I do?

The rooster is trying his dominance with you and your husband, and if you don't stop it, it will only get worse. Walking around him or staying out of his way will only reinforce his behavior. He tries to hit you, hit him back. Show him you and your husband are the head chicken and the hens are...

4 AM: A problem or totally normal?

Being that this just started, one possibility is a predator maybe where the light won't detect it. 2nd, don't feed at 4am, good lord, you will train them to do this all the time, and anytime! You usually hear the rooster who crows at this time waking up everybody, (and eventually he will) yet he...

    Guinea Fowl Questions

Thank you for the reply! My male really doesn't make any noise, just a little chirp sound every now and then when he gets excited, or at least I can't tell because the other 2 always beg for attention screaming that "buckwheat" sound. So I assume the 1 in question that yells just as much as the...

    Guinea Fowl Questions

4 part question: Can a guinea be both male & female? I have 3. I have 1 male, 1 female, the other makes the noise of a female but 1 waddle is small on one side, the other side is very large and has a bigger crown than the male, is this common? Will she/he work itself out to be one or the other...

    Hatching Guinea eggs

So far so good, all 4 hatched and suppose to go into lockdown tomorrow. But all healthy, talkative, but not loud (yet). Actually they are quieter than the quail and chickens have been at this stage, maybe I just got an unusual batch. Or because I just hatched out 4???

    Hatching Guinea eggs

Thank you for your reply. Have no idea how they were kept before I received the eggs (got them for free) The one I was talking about just hatched and still talking (chirping) Just seems a bit more vocal than what I'm use to hearing with chickens. :)

    New member, old chicken mama

Always willing to learn where I can, or offer advice on something I may know. Had chicken all my life, incubated my own chicken/turkey eggs, but just started to incubate guinea and bantam (never had either of those around my farm)

    Hatching Guinea eggs

Had chickens all my life, incubated my own for years. This is the first time trying to hatch guinea eggs. I did research for the amount of time it takes for them to hatch, but when I went to turn the eggs this morning, 1 was already 1/2 way zipped out and it is only the start of day 24. Is this...
