Hmmm, I've never had my turkeys do this, but it sounds like they may be doing it on purpose. Turkeys are pretty intelligent birds (Despite popular belief) so I doubt they would forget where the nest is. However, is it possible that the turkeys are just kicking the hay on the eggs while...
How awesome, but I can't believe you only came home with ONE animal!! I would not have been able to resist as well!
He looks like a RIR roo though. New Hampshires are much lighter than him. Looks like he will be a big boy! Once he fills in, he should be beautiful!
Hmmm, looks like it could be a spangled, but seems like it will grow up to have some sort of brownish feathers. It's always difficult to tell with chicks though, especially OEGBs. It's always fun to wait and see what they turn out to be though!
Spiritual mystic,
There is a section of BYC called "Show and Swap meet" I believe and you can search around to see if anything is close to you. You will also be able to post your location and find out if anyone knows of any shows not listed.
How cute! I wish we had costume contests around here for pets. The closest thing we have is a day at the church where your pets can be "blessed". I don't go to church, but I always wanted to stop in on one of those days to see what animals people would bring!
I know there are a few threads around here with pictures from shows. They may be a few pages back, but I know I have seen them.
Just give people some time. I'm sure someone will respond soon enough!
How neat! I wish you the best of luck hatching them! I have only tried one batch of shipped eggs and I didn't have any luck. I think they had been a little "shook" up during transit though.
What kinds of ducks are they?
I know you didn't ask about this hatchery, but have you considered using Cackle? They are absolutely wonderful, and they have a pretty nice selection as well. I'm not quite sure where they are out of, but I have nothing but good things to say about them.
It sounds like they are molting. My birds typically do this two times a year...once in the fall and once in the spring. They should start laying soon, but give it a few weeks. Also, this wacky weather sometimes throws them off as well. Mine haven't laid since this winter!
Hmmm, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Typically at fairs, they have someone (or a few) people watching the birds at all times. I am usually a "herdsman" at our county fair and my job is to keep an eye on the birds. If you are that worried about it, you could always call the ag extension...
Haha, I wish I could say we had the same problem! It was beautiful yesterday, but today it is just cold and rainy. Ugh, can't wait for the nice weather.
How cute! I haven't had an aggressive rooster in quite awhile. They usually don't last very long here! (I don't kill them, but they usually go off to auction) I can't risk someone getting hurt with little kids around the barn.
