We have had ducks share the coop with chickens, the only issue I found was that ducks are extremely messy with their water. They bathe, drink and shake the water everywhere.
I now have small individual duck houses for the different breeds with an enclosed pen and a kiddie pool. The houses...
So basically, based on what this idiot says, if you buy from TSC you can expect 3/4 to die????? I canr even begin to comment on that one. I'm with you, I find that when I shop at big box stores and I have a question, people just say whatever to get me to move along. ATROCIOUS!
This question may have already been answered, but...
When do mandies typically start laying? Mine are kept in an indoor aviary with a nesting box, but not laying yet. They are about 9 months old.
If you can get an incubator, I would be glad to send you some free EE eggs if you will pay the shipping (10.80 for a flat rate box). We are over run with eggs from our ladies :)
"Chick Days" are a joke, completely agree with tinydancer. I stopped going to TSC a while ago, I usually go to my local Co-Op. The prices are better, the people are friendlier. Our co-op started carrying chicks last week and had a much better variety than what I have seen from TSC in the...

Thanks for all the suggestions! Its always good to have advice from poultry veterans!
And on a side note, I only ordered a few chicks from Ideal last week and as long as my total was $25 it didnt matter how few I got. What gives with TSC???
I know for shipping purposes (warmth and such) that there has to be a minimum, but I cant imagine why TSC would have such a policy? I would love to hear the response you get from them...
I agree with chickenzoo, we have had chicks hatch this way in the past and have used the tape trick (usually scotch tape or a band-aid for the babies). I have never had an older one with this issue, but I imagine the duct tape would work well to correct the problem.
The ones that I have...
We have trays that we made from recycling a metal storage shed. The trays slide between two wooden brackets. Once a week we just pull the trays out and hose them down in the garden. Works great for the poop and the plants.
