How much space does each chicken have in the coop? I have 3 Red Star that started laying at just under 15 weeks and I basically have averaged 3 eggs/day ever since. One of the ladies is giving me a double yolker too. The 3 of them share 96 sq ft of space. They're in an 8' x 12' x 6' high...
I have 3 Red Star from Murray McM. They all started laying at 14.5 weeks of age and have not slowed down since. Am getting 3 eggs most days from 3 chickens. They're friendly and inquisitive but not super big or sturdy looking birds. They love treats and coping well with the weather here in...
I throw them into the 'chicken scrap bowl' and usually leave 'em overnight. Crush them up with my hands and toss them into the run just so they do not look like eggs. My girls particularly like it if I've hard boiled a few eggs and happen to leave some of the egg white stuck to the shells...
I must be lucky cause my chickens scarf up anything. They eat layer pellets no problem along with BOSS, cracked corn, oyster shells. They do like treats and probably the only thing that I've removed from the coop next day is peppers. They're not overly fussy about eating peppers.
I have a big big feeder that I keep laying pellets in. Holds about 20 pounds of layer pellets. I have a hanging wild bird feeder they have to get up onto one of the roosts to get to and I fill that up with BOSS. On the side of the coop I have what I can best describe as a wrought iron semi...
I was totally blown away when I went out to the coop and found 3 of the teeny tiniest eggs I've ever seen laid by my 3 newbies who are exactly 15 weeks 6 days old. All THREE of 'em laid for the first time on the same day. They're RedStars. I also noticed the day before that suddenly their...
I think I recall reading somewhere that putting a bale of hay into the coop for chickens to nibble at is good. Is it? Would they actually eat hay?
Mostly I feed laying pellets, BOSS, throw in some cracked corn and oyster shell along with whatever scraps I happen to have each day (which does...
For these meat chickens how much space would you have to allocate per bird? If you're really only keeping them 2 months how much space per chicken is needed?
I have my 3 dgg laying ladies in about 100 sq feet and that seems ample for them to stroll around and stretch their legs. They've...
We're allowed 3 chickens and basically I keep 3. They give lots of eggs - basically 1/chicken daily and I give all extras out to the neighbours who really appreciate them. Keep within the laws, do what you're supposed to and avoid all the headaches/heartaches and ill-will you'll feel if you're...
Way cool photos! Love 'em. I'm fairly new to this forum and also fairly new to a hobby of photography. Have a Nikon D90 and starting to learn (really learn) how to use it! Just finished a 6 week class to some of the basics into my head. Slow going but photography is soooooooo wonderful...
Thanks! Appreciate the info. I removed "Mrs Meanie" tonight to the 6' x 6' dog run for all evening. She was happy enough scratching up the dirt and eating bugs. Her absence gave everybody else a relaxed evening and a breather. Put her back in once it got dark and hopefully tomorrow we'll be...
