How to pick a light colored EE?

Ours 3 EEs are 5 weeks, I have pics of them at a few days and at 4 weeks...our lightest one, Ginger, fooled me into thinking we were sent the wrong breed but she's got the green feet and looks like she'll be a buff colored EE. The other two fooled me, I would have thought that the lighter...

Counting down the day until baby chicks get here!!!!!!!!

Also thought I'd add that you still might have an EE hidden in there. One of mine looked just like a BO chick, no puffy cheeks or chipmunk coloring at all, just fluffy yellow. Now at almost 5 weeks it's feathering in like an EE with white and buff coloring and it's feet are green. I actually...

Counting down the day until baby chicks get here!!!!!!!!

Oh no, so sorry! I thought it was awful that we lost one but ten is ridiculously horrible to handle I'm sure. I'm not sure where you are located but I was able to get two sexed female EEs (advertised as araucanas) locally from a private seller on Craigslist but also all of the local feed shops...

    6 Baby Chickens arrived today~

Well as our little mystery yellow chick has grown she is definitely not a buff orp...her feet are turning greenish and she's off white with tan/black/ brown splotches scattered throughout. Oh well, more fun colored eggs I guess!

    6 Baby Chickens arrived today~

They are from a feed store so I am sure they are just EEs even though they call them Araucanas. I really wanted to get some "true" Araucanas from a breeder just an hour away from us that does the rumpless Araucanas in all sorts of cool colors but she doesn't know how to sex them so I would be...

    6 Baby Chickens arrived today~

After a lot of searching pictures of chicks, we have deduced that the little yellow ones we have are probably the White Leghorn and the Buff Orpington and that the Easter Egger must have been the one we lost. Of course, we won't know for sure for a few more weeks. :) So today we went out and got...

    6 Baby Chickens arrived today~

Humm, it was so hard to decide which breed we lost but it was much lighter yellow and looked much more like all of the pictures of the white leghorn or BO. Here are a few pics of the one I think is the EE (the yellow one). All of the darker ones I know which breed they are so those aren't in...

    6 Baby Chickens arrived today~

Our chicks arrived this morning. They were cold, lethargic, and one was dead! :( Not very happy about that at all. We had to nurse 4 of the remaining 6 back to life with sugar water and it looks like they are going to make it!!! Needless to say I will not be ordering cross country chicks again...

    Bay Area BYCers!

Thank you for the ideas! I guess I must be searching in the right places because I looked at the omelet ranch and also saw the lavendar orps. :) I just wish that the lavendar orps were sexed then I would definitely get one. Looks like we are going to get a few from Alamo Hay and Grain tomorrow...

    Bay Area BYCers!

HI all, I have been lurking on this thread but have yet to join in the conversation until now! We live in Sunnyvale and just got our first 7, now 6 chicks in the mail today and are very excited to start our little backyard flock. So sad that one of our chicks didn't make it. :( I am in a search...

    6 Baby Chickens arrived today~

We ordered ours from MPC and they hatched yesterday but haven't arrive yet. We are all the way out in CA so I was guessing it would take a little longer. Oh, I really hope that we have a good story to add to this thread tomorrow morning! Congrats on your chickies!!!

Keeping LITTER out of water and food in homemade brooder?!

Not too sure about the litter problem but I really liked this person's little perch in the brooder. Looks sturdy enough. Good luck! :) https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/wichita-cabin-coop

Food and water in or out of the hen house if open to a secure run?

We are using 1/2" hardware cloth so we are hoping that it works well. I've read that is the best to use. We will see...covering our run with it in the next few days as we complete the coop.
