New Hen Hiding In Nesting Box

Thank you so much. That was pretty much what I thought. The first time I reached in, she did peck at me, but I think that was because I startled her. When I took her out, she was fine. I try to pet them every chance I get to try and reassure them nobody is going to hurt them. I'll take your...

New Hen Hiding In Nesting Box

I just went out to the coop/run and removed her from the nest. I was right, she was not laying an egg. I checked to make sure there are no fights going on. The 4 new ones are all sitting peacefully on top of the nesting boxes, and the 5 "old" ones are going about their business as usual. I'll...

New Hen Hiding In Nesting Box

Red Star Hen Can't Close Beak

I was watching her today for a while. She is eating and drinking, but sleeping a lot, too. I managed to get another shot of her beak, and I also cropped it to try and show the swelling better. I also noticed that there seems to be a yellow discharge in her mouth.

Thank you so much! You're right... it DOES look swollen. I didn't notice that. I'll try to get a better photo. I'll also take your advice about the liquid diet.

Red Star Hen Can't Close Beak

Hi Everyone. Not sure this is the correct category for this, but it seems like it is. I noticed about a week ago that one of our hens can't close her beak all the way. When we purchased them in early October, she was fine. This is a new development. I even gave her a private little stash of...
