3 week old duckling with a slipped hock! Help!

I noticed yesterday that one of my ducklings was limping. I didn't worry too much about it then (kicking myself now). Today when I got a good look at her, her knee is very swollen. I did alot of online research and found that she most definately slipped a hock tendon. From the reading I did...

Help! Found a duck hatchling and I don't know ducks!

Earlier today I found what looks to be a 1-3 day old duck hatchling. There is no nest, mother, or other ducklings. This was at home on our farm. We haven't seen any ducks in the area ever and we are surprised to find this one as we have 2 yard dogs who regularly run the yard. So I brought it...

We now have TWO layers! Found 2 eggs in the coop this morning. Midget is still laying in the box instead of the nesting boxes, and now we have Anna laying in the corner of the coop behind a shovel. I messed up both the nests in hopes that they use the boxes instead. Golf ball still in the...

Midget is 24 weeks now. I know how you feel! I was super anxious waiting for that first egg to come. She's still the only one laying, however I have 2 more hens that are now squatting for the roosters. Hopefully they will start laying soon! Good luck with your EE's!

Midget laid her second egg this morning. Her first egg was 2 days ago. This one is also green, abit bigger and with less blood spots. I've also noticed that one of my roosters is very protective of her and doesn't leave her side. So cute! He's also the one that I've seen her mate with. Last...

The golf ball trick seems to work too. The nesting box that was all messed up was the only one with a golf ball in it. The golf ball was moved to the end and burried as well. cool!

    First Egg Countdown

Honestly my husband's family used to keep chickens for meat all the time. So when it came to processing the chicken I just let him do it. This is my first time having chickens so I had no idea how to do it. I didn't have a problem putting the roosters down because they really were a pain in...

    First Egg Countdown

From what I can tell we have 2 roosters and 6 hens. We originally had 4 roosters but 2 of them were bullying the ladies to the point of starving them. So those roosters made excellent chicken soup. But the ones that we have now all seem to get along wonderfully. They are quiet, protective...
