Thanks, of course you KNOW it took everyone's favorite little easter egger first. Then it got my Whitings True Blue that survived some crazy disease as a pullet (only to be cat food). I guess that cat does not like blue eggs. Now I have to wait for my Creambars to start laying!
I would definitely use trail cams. I hope you get it figured out and although I like cats too, I do NOT have any tolerance for one that kills my birds.
I know most people on here don't think a cat will take your birds, but I had two smaller hens disappear about 2 weeks apart finding only feathers. I realize ducks are larger, so not sure about that. I set up trail cams and KNOW it was a feral cat. She continued to stalk my birds overnight...
We lost two of our girls between dusk and dawn in the past couple of months a few weeks apart. They would go into the barn on their own from their fenced in run at dusk and reemerge at dawn. I started lock down overnights and Set up trail cams, and turns out it was a large neighborhood feral...
I am also in Southeastern PA. I also have a 6 week old Speckled Sussex! LOL
It has been quite warm here lately. I don't see enough to make me think that is a roo. Good luck!
Not sure if everyone will see this or not since its old but... i am convinced it is the CAT that killed my two girls. We have caught her on camera several times a little before dawn like she was waiting for the early bird. We have seen NOTHING else on either trail cam. Seems pretty...
Well, they were NOT roosted hens, they were in an open run, and based on the feathers there was plenty of "chase". Still not ruling out the rabbit killing calico.
Not young or bantam but they were my two smaller girls. An EE and a dwarfed (some weird health issue when she was young) whiting’s true blue. My other 6 that remain are all full sized.
I appreciate what you’re saying but will clarify that my hens were not taken from inside their coop area or indoor pen. They were taken from the outdoor run. Not sure if that changes anything, but just wanted to put it out there. There were multiple feather piles so my girl did put up a...
We are going to keep them on in case. I found it hard to believe too, although just yesterday she told me the cat does kill rabbits. If I see nothing else in about a week I’m going to play judge and jury and kitty is getting a conviction. I bought a live trap.
Update on the bird killer...
We have been putting the trail cams out and checking them every day (girls are in lockdown in the barn overnight and into the day until I get home) and we have seen nothing until around 4:30 this morning and we got some great pictures of... my neighbor’s cat??? It’s...
