Thank you very much. I am in the process of making a "blocker" for the nest box now-my nest box is attached to the roost area and at night even after putting her on the roost she would get down and go back to the nest box.

With the wind chill this week we are -1 to -7/8 at night and day times are highs in the mid 20s(with wind chills being less and snow maybe)...these are my first chickens and she is my favorite and I'm sure this probably not bad compared to other places. And yes I was prepared to take the chicks...

Even with no eggs in the box? Thank you very much for your response. I will read up on broody hens. I haven't read alot on it since I only have a small backyard flock and from the original research I did the barred rocks were not known for going broody :-) I hope that is all it is I would hate...

My 9month old barred rock, Lucy has been laying 5-6 eggs/week since the middle of October with no issue. Even since its been cold she still lays regular 4-5 eggs/week and I'm pretty sure she laid yesterday. However last night around 10:30pm when I went to check the coup she was in the nest box...

She seems much better. She is up and alert. Her eye(actually her right eye my left looking at her) is still not open. It's raining here so I have left her in the house.

it's seems as if her left eye has been hurt she will not open it. Other then the patch of feathers missing from her head/neck(probably the size of a half dollar) and she had the tip point of her comb looks like chewed off I can't find anything else.

She has taken a sip of water on her own. After more inspection it's her left eye she will not open the right seems fine now. Should I bring in one her buddies to stay in the house with her she seems lonely.
