    Automatic coop door recommendations

I currently have a Run-chicken door. I do not recommend. The battery lasted a year the first year.. then after that it's been going thru them every 2-3 months. When I called about it I was told to do a "hard reset" I asked what that was and they said to replace the batteries with new. 0o I...

New to backyard chickens! I need help!

There are 2 accounts you can follow on Instagram that are extremely helpful with all your questions. I’ve done most all of what they suggest and have never had trouble with our build or the chickens. @purelychickens and @simplychickensofficial Give them a look. They are fantastic. Good luck...

Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hi and thanks for the reminder! We've been super busy, traveling and of course "chickening" with our 9 hens. I'm actually about to post a question about one of my hens who is very aggressively protecting phantom chicks! She skipped being broody and thinks she has chicks but we have ZERO chicks...

    Nest box drama

I have 9 hens and 5 nest boxes in their coop. So of course they all want to lay in just 1 of the 5 boxes. They all stand there staring down the one who is laying, squawking at the top of their lungs for a couple hours each morning until everyone has had their turn. I’ve tried to entice them into...

Young rooster is picking on our older bantam

They have always seen each other and interacted but she will not roost with them yet. I would love to find a new home for him but I don’t know how to go about that. I’ve not had one before and I don’t know any other chicken ppl. I know most end up in a pot so I’m hesitant too. He’s a good...

Young rooster is picking on our older bantam

I didn't see any threads with this topic. I started with 3 hens.. 2 sex-linked and 1 red cochin bantam. The 2 sex-linked have passed and my bantam was lonely so we got some more pullets to raise with her. Despite being a broody girl (she is 4.5 years old now, she was not mother material so we...

    Fans in coops??

I have a fan mounted higher up in my coop and then on hot nights I put a small, battery operated fan in the window going out to pull the heated air and also for more ventilation.

Regular sized rooster + Bantam hens?

My young sussex rooster tried to mount my 4+ year old bantam who has no experience with a rooster at all. I have 9 regular sized hens we got with him (actually we were buying pullets but he slipped thru the sexing I guess) We love him and he's a nice rooster but I'm very worried about my little...

    New rooster too thin

I too have a young but skinny rooster. He’s a Sussex as far as I can tell. I was buying all pullets and turned out to have one Roo in the bunch. I’m not mad at all but he is skinny and that has me concerned. They’ve been treated and cleared of worms and coccidia a few weeks ago so he should be...

    Usage of lime.

I don’t find that to be the case. I have used it and it works brilliantly for me. And my coop is in a woodsy area art of our yard.

    Usage of lime.

This is from a google search about first Saturday lime: “First Saturday Lime is a patent pending formula made from calcium hydroxide. They took hydrated lime and, with a patent pending process, made it insoluble, which means it does not react with moisture. The end result is a strong insect...

    Usage of lime.

A lot of folks use diatomaceous earth in their coops but The Chicken Chick and other sources warn against it as a potential hazard to chickens health. First Saturday lime does not have those same issues and works as well. Just thought I’d put that out there since so many have mentioned DE.
