    The "refrigerator egg" thread

That is a fantastic hatch result! Now I know what to do with my eggs I had set aside in the fridge that don't get used right away.. would love to try a staggered experiment.. seeing just how long to push the refridgeration before incubation period.. Fascinating stuff really, if you think about...

    Does anyone else continuously incubate?

I put mine in immediately after gathering.. I leave them in one incubator for about 1 1/2 weeks, then candle before putting in the next.. I don't hold any to get a batch, if I get 1 egg extra that day, it goes right in... I always have eggs hatching.. i did try and get a little ahead of myself...

    Does anyone else continuously incubate?

I only have Rhode Island Reds, so breed is easy. I write the date I put them in on the egg itself, makes it easy to keep track of tentative hatch days...I've been curious about refridgerator eggs.. I'm glad to hear that can work as well! I like waking up every day to seeing chicks in the...

    Does anyone else continuously incubate?

I don't do lockdowns, they get turned like the rest until they start to peep... I seem to be doing pretty good, for not following the rules :) I was just curious if anyone else has had success with this method, and am glad to see I'm not the only one :) I've branched out recently to a 2nd...

    Storing birds

I can my chickens all of the time, specifically the roosters.. My favorite method is to put them in the crockpot for 2 days, adding garlic, salt, onions, and celery. Then after all the meat has melted off of the bones, I'll can the stock up seperately (makes great mashed potatoes, rice mix, or...

    Does anyone else continuously incubate?

I am curious if anyone else on here keeps their incubator full? I normally put 8-10 eggs in my Hovabator 1602 still air every day. And every day, I have chicks coming out. I'm getting between 80-95% hatch rate on my fertile eggs, I don't do lockdown. I don't stop turning, and I don't look too...

Who has purchased eggs from ebay ? and what was your hatch rate ?

I've just put some Bourbon Red Turkey eggs, in the incubator, bought them on ebay this past weekend, then discovered this great thread. I am wondering if there is any way to compile a list of 'good' and 'bad' sellers on ebay through the experiences.. It sounds like some of them are legit...

Anyone feed their turkeys barley fodder?

Just out of curiousity, how old were they when you started feeding them the barley? I started giving little clumps to them at about 3 weeks, but still mainly their starter mix.. by the time my chickens are about 7 weeks old, they are pretty much only on the barley, can you do that that early...

Anyone feed their turkeys barley fodder?

Wow, that's great to hear! I know my chickens are doing great on it, kicking out eggs like clockwork.. Do you give any extra supplements, or just leave the turkey feed out? I love the fodder, helps keep my animals healthy and my costs down. Do you also leave out oyster shell for the turkeys? I...

Anyone feed their turkeys barley fodder?

Hi all, frequent voyer on this site, infrequent poster. I have been successfully raising chickens on the barley fodder that I grow for them for quite some time now, but am now getting into turkeys. I'm wondering because of the higher protein requirements of turkeys, if anyone has had any luck...

What to feed chickens to lay more eggs.

Just a different perspective.. I feed my 18 rhode island reds a mixure of BOSS and Barley fodder, with a sprinkle of occasional oyster shell. I do have a light in their coop on a timer, so they are dark from 10-4 am only. I get between 16 and 17 eggs every day, even throughout the winter...
