There is a roof vent, about 18 inches in diameter. There is a fan mounted to that blowing up, pushing air out the top of the bin. There will be a set of fans at the top portion of the door blowing either out or in. So far, ventilation doesn't seem to be a problem, I have somewhere around 80...
Far from being an expert here, but I try to put a heat lamp at one edge of a fairly large container, and let the chicks regulate themselves. So far it has worked very well. I have yet to use thermometers to monitor any temps.
Yes I use some a couple different types of feeders. 7 guinea keets will have it emptied and scattered across the cage in a relatively short time, whereas the 30 chicken chicks don't scatter 1/4 of the food.
As newly hatched chicks/keets, we use a peanut butter lid, add food and enough water...
Well I took a gamble. I have an easter egger hen that adopted 13 chicks about 4 weeks old, they are now 7 weeks old. The other day they were off by themselves and she was back in the coop sitting next to another batch of 4 week old chicks, while her adopted young were playing in the pig pen...
Maybe I should make myself more clear.
I have 2 coops. One is a grain bin converted to coop, which I keep my chickens in. I have another coop my guineas roost in. In the mornings I open the doors and let them out all day. I have some unused rabbit cages I have hung up in the grain bin, which I...
I have several small batches of keets up and coming. About how many weeks old would anyone suggest I put them in the Guinea coop? With chickens I aim for 6 weeks old. Hoping this would be comparable with Guinea's. All my birds have complete free range.
It seems to me, that guinea keets are terribly messy eaters. The starter I have in their food pan is scattered throughout the cage, while the same number of chicken chicks don't toss out near as much feed. Is there a better food dish for guinea keets?
I built a cabinet incubator, about 15"x15"x 42". I placed about 10 pounds of lead ingots (to act as heat sinks) on 2 separate shelves (20 pounds total). My incubator isn't sealed up great around the front door, but when we lost power for 4 hours, the temp didn't drop below 98 degrees, I'd say...
