Then what are the black ones? Ah I see where you said black sex links. I had to look up what that even is. I see the difference between them and the Gold Laced Wyandottes now.
Are they good layers?
So we got 5 "laying hens" in August when they were about 4 mo this old. We started getting 2-3 eggs/day about 3 weeks ago. I started looking g at them all today and think a few are actually roosters.
Any help with opinions?
Chicken #1
Chicken #2
Chicken #3
So I have 5 chickens (black astrolorp, light Brahm, gold layced wyndott, barred rock, Americana). They all are laying so we get 4-5 eggs a day. Over the past couple days The Light Brahm, Daisy, has started just laying on the eggs all day and night. I go to collect them and she makes noises at...
I think just because I posted yesterday the last non-layer decoded to jump on the band wagon and lay. We got 5 eggs (only have 5birds) today for the first time! So exciting.
Three are 22 weeks and the other two are 20 weeks.
I feed them Mana Pro Egg Maker feed. I'm thinking about starting a fodder feed system. Still unsure about it though.
Anyone know how long it takes them to lay consistently? Some days we get 4 eggs, others two, sometimes only 1 egg. Today we got three. One of the chickens still isn't laying also. I think it's the Light Brahma. She is the only one I haven't seen in the nesting box yet.
A slight disappointment...
Two days ago our hen, Olive, didn't lay at all. So I checked yesterday morning and there was a nice extra large egg waiting for me. I compared it to the store bought large and it was bigger. I can't wait for the other 4 to start laying, then it's good buy to those store boughts.
This morning I cracked the first egg open in a bowl, then cracked a store bought into the same bowl. I was surprised at how much of a deeper darker yellow the fresh eggs was compared to the bright pale yellow of the store bought. I can only assume it has to do with the clean organic egg layer...
That's what I figured.
Also she laid it on the roof of the nesting box instead of in it. They do roost on top of the coop at night since it's been hot. So I'll use this egg to put in the roosting box and make sure they are closed up in the coop at night so they can see the egg in the box...
Yesterday we got the first egg from one of our girls. We believe the Black Austrolorp laid it. The last few days she has been real protective of the coop
The egg is really small, but nice shape and the shell is great. Does anyone know if the Austrolorp eggs are really small or will they get...
That's good. This morning I let them out of the roosting box, the new pullet was the last out. All the original girls were around the feeder eating and she walked in-between them and started eating as well, none of them messed with her, so I'm hoping they are fine with her already.
She's real pretty, tan with blue under tones. The other 4 haven't really accepted her yet and keep pecking at her when she comes near. How long will it take for them to accept her? She is 2 weeks older than 2 and 4 older than the original girls.
