Now that the ferns are up this alarm has been going off every couple nights. It seems critters have good cover now with the ferns to sneak in close to the coop. Usually around 2-3am. By the time i get out of bed and get out there the critter is gone.
Tonight i was up late working and it went...
jykmoy, I slid the nest box into the hole and nailed thru the nest box sides into the plywood of the hen house wall. then nailed thru the nest box floor into the 2x4 on the bottom. then i added plywood trim peice on the inside of the hen house to make the opening smaller and this trim peice is...
stumpy, the stapler was portercable 1" 18 gauge narrow stapler. my buddy currently has my kit to make a dog house so i dont have it handy to tell you exactly what model number.
jykmoy, what i did with the nesting boxes was build them on the ground and make sure the roof angle was right and the...
I have a dog and little kids that are always over by the coop so I don't want to use anything that could harm them. So that rules out traps, TNT, and most other dangerous stuff...lol I thought about the electric fence but didn't want to have to have power at the coop all year ( will use...
I would say yes that could definitely happen. But for my situation The main purpose of the alarm is to let me know something is out there so that I can deal with the predator. The alarm scaring the critter away is only a side benefit. I get piece of mind knowing that if anything spends more than...
If my hen house is 6 oclock and the other end of my run where the run enterance door is 12 oclock i have my alarm about 15 feet away on a tree at about 1:30 oclock area and about 1 foot off the ground so it can "see" under the hen house and thru. the range of teh alram is a 120 degree angle and...
Yep they can get in close....but they can only be close to the coop for a few seconds before the alarm goes off doing 2 things. Hopefully scaring it away and letting me know something is there. Either that something runs off fast, or I shoot it, or I scare it away if I can't shoot it.
So for me...
jykmoy is right. i basically mae a 11x14 door out of 1/2inch plywood scrap. the hole in the wall is 10x13 so there is a inch more dorr than hole. i made the slide frame by cutting a 1x3 lengthwise at 30 inches or something so it would slide straight all teh way up. i then nailed those now 1x1.5...
Lol...yep just makes noise. But so far everything that is standing there when it goes off runs off pretty fast and the alarm continues for 2 minutes then resets. Our coop is 110 feet from our house and we can hear it go off with the windows closed and tv on. We also have a spot light that shines...
Thanks for the compliments!
Jykmoy, as i was making it i realized it would be too heavy to move whole. so i cut it in half (you can see the short peices of 2x4 on the top and bottom right in front of the hen house where i reconnected it together). I also made the roof frame in 2 seperate 7 foot...
