I posted it was a good idea and I would probably do that before someone else posted it would ruin the blade for anything else, so I didn’t know. Now that I do, I’d probably just get a metal blade.
I literally have NO experience building, so hearing from everyone is very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I didn’t even see your post about replacing the rolled roofing earlier. We have that on a screen porch addition and will need to replace it at some point...the plan was to do a...
That makes a lot of sense- thanks. My only experience with a metal roof is the one a previous homeowner put over our attached shed (no underlay, over beams). The last thing I want is a leaky roof over our chickens in the winter.
Thank you! That is exactly our weather. Wet wet snow just around the time you’re wintered out and then just more wet through mud season. Is there a reason for the felt roofing paper- I didn’t know about that (then again I know zilch about roofing, really)
I didn’t know anything about zinc versus normal, so that’s really helpful. It’s such a small roof I’m hoping we can find something at a decent price. My gut tells me we should just do something metal.
Yes, we can definitely make adjustments down the road. I think if there is a massive savings between the metal roof and shingles we may change our mind and start with shingles. If condensation can be an issue with either, and our pitch is good, maybe there is not a huge plus to metal. We'll see...
I'm getting will such great info from everyone, thanks for adding to it! I'm thinking we'll go with the metal over plywood and adjust if needed down the road. We may not even be getting chickens until spring, so this winter would almost be a dry run.
Hmmm. I wonder if we may have more frequent issues then with a metal roof. We live on a river (there is a steep drop 10-15ft down to it about 15ft past our fenced yard). We don’t have any flooding from it, but it does get very humid at times because of it.
