Thank you all for your advice and support for the Chick! Sadly it passed away this evening when I came back from dinner :( I tried giving it egg yolk, but it wouldn't take hardly any. It did take some sugar water and electrolytes from a dropper. I think it was just almost too starved and weak to...
The temperature is around 97 degrees.
The reason for this is because I had a hen sit on 6 eggs and four hatched. By day 25 she gave up sitting on them so I candled the remaining two and one was infertile while the other appeared to not have movement so I thought it died in the late stages. I...
I have a Chick about one week old and it tries but can't poop. I've tried using warm water and a qtip but I can't unclog its vent. I attached an image below of what it looks like. Is it pasty butt and I need to try more or is it something else? Thanks in advance!
That’s awesome! I might try the egg yolk sometime today if it doesn’t decide to eat the feed on its own. It’s been a lot better at drinking the electrolytes and sugar water, so maybe I can help it discover the food too.
I haven’t yet, but I was considering wetting the feed some since it still isn’t eating much now that it’s warmed up and drinking. I will probably try that soon today. Thanks!
It’s got a little more energy today, and I’ve been able to get it to drink some sugar water and electrolytes on its own after dipping its beak in the water a few times. If it will start eating on its own too, I feel like it should be able to gain the strength to make it. Thanks for the advice!
I had a hen sit on 6 eggs and 4 of them hatched by day 22. Since the egg box was higher up, she eventually gave up on the other two to take care of the babies on day 25. I candled the eggs and one was infertile while there didn’t appear to be movement in the other so I figured it died in the...
Thanks! I will get try and give him some liquids pretty quick. I haven’t hatched too many times before so I wasn’t sure if he was ready or just needed a break and to finish absorbing nutrients because I kept seeing his beak open and shut, but I will definitely keep that in mind for next time one...
Thank you! The others hatched between days 21-23. I have a styrofoam incubator and had problems with the temperature fluctuating from 98-101 degrees for the first few days, so that probably caused the slightly later hatch. I had 6/12 make it counting this one with four infertile eggs and two...
It is day 25 and I had a chick that had stopped mid-zip for a little over 32 hours. I had saw similar posts related to this and decided to help it finish the zip and hatch. It has stayed sort of curled up for a minute. Does anyone know if this is alright or did I assist it too early/late?
