    What type of predator...?

Dear god! No bears here... We live in Kansas so I think our biggest predator would be a mountain lion but I doubt it would attack that high.

    What type of predator...?

No blood, and it doesn't look like it made it all the way through. We have a broody hen and her chicks in this run/coop and they were all fine. I think the missing wire is just a trick of light - that part is all intact

    What type of predator...?

Why I suggested raptor is because is at the top of the A frame run. I doubt any dog would be able to get that high up on the side of it to do this kind of damage. I would say it was at eye level and I'm 5'5. The bar at the top is the peak of the A frame

    What type of predator...?

Sorry some how it didn't get linked before - it's kinda hard to see but this damage is on both sides. This is a small A-frame run that we are using as a nursery coop/run. Fortunately on the chicks and their mamma are ok.

What type of predator would be able to do this to hardware cloth? Hawk? Raccoon?

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Final count was 8 of 11. Two eggs never formed and the third died before hatching or absorbing the yolk. We also lost one chick.... She and another baby somehow got out of the nest box and wandered into a corner - we think they got a chill. One was dead when I found them and other was very...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

4 outta 11 so far. We had a problem with other hens sneaking their eggs under Gertie so now we think we have a clutch of eggs that all have different hatch days! We'll wait and see what she decides to do.

    Lethargic hen

I'm taking Tullulah in for a necropsy/ fecal float to verify that it is indeed Coccidosis and then treating the entire flock. Unfortunately we just hatch some new chicks so they will remain separate from this part of the flock for a while. They will be on medicated feed but should I pretreat...

    Lethargic hen

We lost Tulullah sometime last night. She had been getting Corid for about 4 days and never saw any improvement. I'm going to treat the rest of the flock to be on the safe side.

    New babies!!!

We have new babies! These two are probably Orpington crossed with Salmon Faverolle. But we still have 9 eggs left in the nest. I'm new to chickens and hatching eggs! How long do we let her remain on the nest before giving up on the rest?

    Lethargic hen

Below is a picture of the last poop she had - basically completely liquid, white with mucus and small red bits. I would say they look like worms but on closer inspection they seemed to just be mucus. Coccidiosis? We started her on Corid liquid 9.5 ml per gallon but she isn't drinking - we've...

    Lethargic hen

Started her or Corid today. She drank a little and ate a few mealworms so maybe a little better than yesterday. Still very lethargic. Falling asleep while standing up. :( she's so sweet I hope we can get her feeling better !

    Lethargic hen

Haven't yet wormed - didn't want to over do it and the flock only about 8 months old. I keep an true out on the droppings - in the yard and in the coop and I haven't seen any evidence of worms. I think I'm going to stick with Terravet and eventually Corid if the Terravet doesn't work. I don't...
