    Tree/Shrub for chickens in yard

I like the idea of the bigger leaves for shade. Perk would be the fruit for the chickens to treat themselves on too. I do have a rose of sharon in the opposite corner of my yard so I could definitely get some seeds from it this fall and plant more.

    Tree/Shrub for chickens in yard

Thank you everyone! As fun as it would be to have something unique, it would also be great to have a native species. I'm in suburb area so not a whole lot of options for pollinators so by helping that, it would be a win win. I do have some Arborvitae's that they can get in around too. I might...

    Tree/Shrub for chickens in yard

Hi All, New chicken owner here. I have 6 pullets that are about 19 weeks old. I have a 4x12 enclosed covered run for them but when I'm home, I let them free range in the yard. I do have a fenced in yard so no issues there. My yard is small (less than quarter acre) and I currently have a 20'...

    Fees and water in coop

Thank you for the info! I can definitely add an opening. The vent hole with a fan is on the backside of this picture and the wind blows towards the coop from where the picture is taken. The picture doesn’t have the ramp and obviously can’t see the auto door. Small door is for nesting boxes and...

    Fees and water in coop

Ok thanks! I can cut another opening tomorrow and I have plenty of hardware cloth to secure it. Luckily I’m more in a suburban area so predators are not plenty. What’s the best way to incorporate more light?

    Fees and water in coop

I have the door set to auto open at 0630 so they can get food and water right away. I have 4 pullets and the coop is 4x4x4.

    Fees and water in coop

There’s a smaller 5” diameter hole that is covered with a solar powered exhaust fan. Outside of that, there’s no other light sources.

    Fees and water in coop

Hey everyone, I just moved my 6 week old pullets into the coop and run today. I just put them into the coop and locked them in separate from the run. Do they need any light and do I need to have their food and water in the coop or can it be left in the run? The door will open at 6:30am

    Gold laced Wyandottes

Thanks! The picture I posted was from a week ago. Despite their quick growth, the one in question doesn’t look much different.

    Gold laced Wyandottes

Thank you! They came from a nursery and were supposed to be pullets. Anything to watch out for during the next couple weeks to identify?

    Gold laced Wyandottes

Hey everyone, my apologies as I’m sure this question has been asked a million times. I’m a newbie and getting started. I have two Easter eggers and two gold laced Wyandottes. They’re roughly 4 weeks old. The two GLW’s, I’m wondering if one is a cockerel or not. Thoughts?

    Newbie

Hey everyone! Justin here. I’ve been creeping for a while but finally joining. A few weeks ago, I got my first 4 chicks. I have them in a 50 gal tote right now as I’m in Ohio and it’s still dropping temps at night. I have 2 Easter eggers and 2 gold laced Wyandottes. I’ve went down the rabbit...
